FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"LIVE FROM THE ISLANDS" IS ON
WITH A BEST OF THE FIRST SEASON SAMPLER
ON KSER 90.7, EVERETT, NOON TO 2 PM,
SATURDAY MARCH 27 & SATURDAY APRIL 3, 2004
"Live From The Islands" co-hosts David Ossman and Judith Walcutt will return
to the air with two special "Best of the Islands" samplers this coming
Saturday, March 27 and next Saturday, April 3, featuring some of their
favorite performances from last fall's first "Live" season. Performers like
Corey Harris, Tina Lear, Karen Blaine, Janie Cribbs, The Pickled Herring
Band, and various masters of the Gypsy "Hot Club" sound will have an encore
appearance on KSER, 90.7, Everett.
In following weeks, Ossman will dig deep in his "Audiola" archives for a
number of two-hour Saturday afternoon shows recorded during the "Audiola's"
first years on KSER. On April 10th he and his son Orson survey "Cowboys and
Indians" in music. On April 17th, David profiles the most famous review
series of all, the Ziegfeld Follies, which appeared on stage, screen and
radio.
"Live From The Islands," with Walcutt and Ossman, returns on April 24 from
Whidbey Island's Greenbank Farm for the Burning Word Festival, sponsored by
the Washington Poets Association. Judith and David will co-host a two-hour
program of poetry, music and interviews.
On May 1st and 8th, the "Audiola" presents "Black Magic," a two-part program
on the great, but rarely heard, all-African American cast Broadway reviews
and musicals, on stage shortly after the turn of the 20th century and
continuing through the 1920s and '30s. On May 15th, Ossman presents "1955 --
My Favorite Year," and on May 22nd, the encore series concludes with a
program celebrating the Broadway collaborations of Fred Astaire and George
Gershwin.
Ossman and Walcutt will be producing and co-hosting, along with other
regional community radio hosts when "Live From The Islands" and KSER visit
The Seattle Folklife Festival over the Memorial Day weekend, May 29-31.
Live coverage of the three-day Folklife Festival will be heard on Community
Radio stations from Bellingham to Olympia and beyond---- all serving a mission
to entertain and enlighten their local audiences independently of mass media
and to continue the tradition of local focus, public access, and training
that community radio established over 50 years ago.
Producer Judith Walcutt promises the return of "Live From The Islands" with
"an exciting late Spring and Summer of live music Festival broadcasts, more
cabaret shows at the Edgecliff restaurant, travel to the San Juans and Gulf
Islands, a week of special broadcast events during Langley's Choochokam
Festival of the Arts in July and especially more comedy and radio theatre,
which our audiences love!"
Fifty years ago, a young genius made a classic that
could never be re-told. Now, it must be told again,
because evil never dies, but copyrights expire!
