Master guitar maker and player Michael Dunn returns to Whidbey
from Vancouver for an encore visit after his appearance at
last October's DjangoFest NW. Dunn has been making guitars
in the tradition of the Spanish classical and flamenco styles
since the 1960s. He has played rhythm guitar with The Hot
Club of Mars for over a dozen years Joining Dunn at the
Edgecliff is the gypsy jazz group "Billet-deux," featuring
Troy Chapman, Juan Serbulo and Rod Backman.

Ya sure ya betcha, this week also features the twin accordions
of the Pickled Herring Band with a toe-tapping program of
"Pickled Favorites" - polkas, foxtrots, waltzes and swing
reminiscent of old-time dance pavilions and today's Island
grange halls. Lori Hastings and Randy Bradley squeeze the
boxes, with Mike Friel, drums and Bruce Anderberg, bass.

Playwright, novelist and Oscar-nominated screenwriter and
director Lewis Carlino, will discuss his forthcoming Whidbey
Island Center for the Arts production of Sheridan's Restoration
comedy, "The School for Scandal." Among Carlino's award-
winning films are The Great Santini, The Sailor Who Fell From
Grace With the Sea, I Never Promised You A Rose Garden, Honor
Thy Father and Class. Carlino's work in the theatre has won
him the Vernon Rice Award and the New York Drama Critics Award
and his first off-Broadway play, Telemachus Clay was revived
under his direction in 2001 at WICA. This year his play The
Exercise has been on a six-month, country-wide tour of Brazil.

This Saturday's LIVE FROM THE ISLANDS also features author
Celeste Mergens, previewing the Whidbey Island Writers
Conference (among the guests, March 5-7, 2004, is mystery
writer Sara Paretsky) and discussing her new role as a member
of the U.N. Hunger Task Force Committee.

December 6 will be a rousing birthday party featuring "No Band
Is An Island" in a program of old and new tunes, and the Langley
All-Stars rocking the house down. George Tirebiter, radio and
screen celebrity and former Surrealist Party Vice Presidential
candidate, will star, with Jim Freeman, in the 1950s hard-boiled
radio spoof "Max Morgan, Crime Cabby."

December 13 promises to be another not-to-be-missed, one-of-a-kind,
end of the season event, with special guests to be announced!

The final programs of the 2003 LIVE FROM THE ISLANDS season
will be on December 20 and 27 and will include evening concerts
recorded at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts during last
July's Choochokam Arts Festival.

LIVE FROM THE ISLANDS will not be broadcast from the Edgecliff
during this Holiday hiatus, but will return on Saturday,
February 7. During January, David Ossman will bring "Ossman's
Audiola," his popular eclectic music and comedy "record show"
to KSER listeners on Saturdays, Noon to 2 pm.

Get in that barrel, darling, an' we'll do it hurricane style!
