||||||||| 8:00 PM -- Tweeny left for parts unknown.   (Entry from Nick Danger's "Idiots I Have Been Paid To Follow").
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, October 09, 2025 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| Catherwood sneaks into the room, and announces "Announcing 'Tweeny', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the sitting room...
||||||||| Catherwood tiptoes into the room, and announces "Announcing 'Deputy Dang', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the vestibule...
Deputy Dang: Woah! We both got here at the same time!
||||||||| "8:00 PM? 8:00 PM!!" says Catherwood, "cease should be here by now...oh, THERE you are!" as cease enters and sits on the divan.
Deputy Dang: Howdy, cease!
||||||||| Beet sashays in at 8:00 PM carrying an obsidian door knocker.
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Beet!
Beet: Howdy Pardners!
||||||||| 8:00 PM: DJTweeny jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past half hour!"
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
DJTweeny: Evenin' Dear Friends
Beet: Hi, Deputy, cease, Tweeny.
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Tweeny!
cease: the tweenman cometh
cease: beetg, dang too
Tweeny: I love this bit
cease: i love that "again?"
Deputy Dang: I loved it before, too!
||||||||| 8:00 PM: llanwydd jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past five minutes!"
Deputy Dang: Howdy, llanwydd!
llanwydd: howdy to you too
cease: llan
Beet: Hi, llan.
DJTweeny: Hey llan
Deputy Dang: "Want an upper? No, my teeth are fine."
DJTweeny: What can you tell us about this performance, Cat? I couldn't find any mention on the internet
DJTweeny: and AFAIK it hasn't been released by FST
DJTweeny: pretty sure I got it from you rather than Taylor, since I put in your file folder
Beet: Odd change of pace musicwise.
cease: recorded at universiyt of maryland
DJTweeny: what year?
DJTweeny: In don't think even Firezine has a record of it
DJTweeny: I'm surprised they haven't put it up on Bandcamp
cease: yes it is a firezine production. I think 1981
Tweeny: It's mentioned here on page 29 >> https://firezine.net/bitfbook/FrederickWeibelJr-BackwardsIntoTheFuture.pdf
Tweeny: but there's no other description I can find
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Ha ha ha - that's very logical."
cease: 3/31/81
cease: produced by fred and chris.
Tweeny: do you have a link?
cease: our total firesign fan community is so tiny, and not growing
cease: no, just the cd i bought from them.
Tweeny: OK
cease: you can ask fred and chris
Tweeny: I wonder if Taylor even has this. You might contact him and make sure it's in the general archive.
cease: they are of maryland.
cease: will ask him
cease: this is hilarious
Beet: Amazingly energetic and creative. And funny.
cease: this reminds me ricki lee jones version of sympathy for the devil.
||||||||| Catherwood walks up and announces "Presenting 'Mutt', just granted probation at 8:00 PM", then leaves hurriedly.
Beet: Hi, Mutt
Mutt: Hey everybody!
Mutt: I was at this show
Tweeny: Hey Mutt
Tweeny: Wow, really? cool...
Tweeny: I grew up in Bowie, and hung out with friends in College Park
Mutt: My audio is messed up but if this is the MD shiw then yees. I worked it and got to hang wit the boys
cease: wow
Tweeny: Yes Mutt, UofM in 1981
cease: when i was on the east coast, i stayed with friends somewhere in maryland, train into the city. seemed very greeen.
Mutt: They were all very cool and seemed to have a good time. Afterwards Pete looked at the others and said something like, “I thought it went good. What do you think?” And everyone started talking at once.
Mutt: Yes, MD is a great place. Not perfect but pretty darn good.
cease: it is miraculous you're here while while we're hearing this
Mutt: Is this Fred’s cd?
cease: yep
Mutt: The theater was the old Hoff Theater in the student union building. I worked as student staff at the Hoff. We normally showed movies seven days a week
Tweeny: that's really cool that FST showed up there
Mutt: But occasionally we’d bring in live acts. This was the first one I worked on. It was a highlight of my life, tbh.
cease: superb recording
Mutt: We booked them. Student Entertainment Enterprises (SEE). Think they are definct now. I still have promo stuff from the whole deal.
cease: somany of them
Tweeny: You might want to make sure Taylor has copies of all that Mutt
Mutt: Yes. It was all done professionally through the soundboard system.
cease: you should write an e-book, mutt
Mutt: He knows all that I possess
Tweeny: kewl
Mutt: Well, almost all ;)
Mutt: I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time. The soundboard was acting up and they actually had to stop the show just before it began. The wizard running the system digured
Mutt: Figured out the problem and got it back up quickly. No other issues from there
cease: please write of your experience somewhere
cease: Me and the 4 or 5
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Hello, we're glad you made it!"
cease: i dont seem to have edited this
Mutt: There isn’t much more than that. I was so fired up to finally SEE them that I was grateful to have to work it. It kept the fanboy stuff to a minimum but I got to really see how they do it
cease: Have you told the story to proctor and ossman?
Mutt: Pretty sure they know - they were there! XD I do remember sitting on the floor in a circle onstage afterwards
Mutt: Talking with all four . It was them and me a and two other folks from SEE. Theybwere so generous with their time and energy
cease: don't you want your memory to be preserved?
Mutt: You’ll need a crow bar … a crew cease
cease: i contributed pieces to Elayne's Falafal in the 90s. it's how i met firefans
Mutt: I always looked forward to FaLafal. Still have my copies within reach. That’s where I became aware of the Freditor and others.
cease: through the usenet group alt.comedy.firesighn, or somone like him
Mutt: You being one of the people I knew about but never met. I did enjoy your archival stuff and I always learned something
cease: doyou know richard arnold? he was part of falafal. i visted him in maryland
Mutt: No I do not. I was very much on my own and just happened to interesct with the guys and other folks by pure chance and good fortune
Mutt: I am the forrest gump of firesign
cease: lol
Mutt: Proc’s friend Adele is an old acquaintance from another world entirely, but it makes a goofy kind of sense in my world
cease: glad to hear that
Mutt: She’s a terrific person and lady. He’s in excellent hands
||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
Deputy Dang: Well worth a dollar!
Beet: Amazing.
||||||||| Catherwood leads llan into the room, accepts a grimy quarter as a gratuity, mumbles something about 8:00 PM, then departs.
Tweeny: wb llan
cease: hi llan
cease: i'm writing more lines for you.
llan: cool
cease: wach myself a little television
cease: if i were still and english teacher, i would have difficulty explaining that.
llan: little joey has gotten older
cease: this is really funny
Mutt: Foulmouth VA
cease: i'm gettimg ideas for the production of my new play from listening to this
Mutt: This is a really good show
llan: when I saw fst in nyc joey joined bland on his program
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Son, it's in the water - that's why it's yellow."
Mutt: Joey’s dream come true!
llan: ben said "you're lucky to be on television son." joey said "so are you" and walked off
Mutt: Lol
cease: perfectly recorded brilliant material. congrats.
Beet: Hate to haveto go, but I must. This has been fun. Nice to see everyone. Have a great weekend. See you next time. G'Nite.
cease: be well, beet
llan: nite beet
Mutt: It was a great venue. Had a Cinemascope screen and a large stage and good space in the wings.
Mutt: See ya Beet!
llan: in nyc bland sad "no, miss presky, its not orca the whale its was orson welles"
Mutt: Here ya go, Llan
cease: this is brilliant'
Deputy Dang: It's neat how it's so familiar but there is so much that is new (different from the album).
Mutt: The O’s were good that year
cease: as a dodger fan, i was pained by our loss to orioles in 66 series
Mutt: Yeah, DD. I heard this first but it was the albums that taught me the routines
Mutt: Best damn team in baseball
cease: ttrue, dd
Mutt: Badk then
cease: ah, you're talking about the blue jays
llan: now granpa walks on
Mutt: Back then, no, but now, love them Jays
cease: like the song, "you gotta have heart" from Damn Yankees
Mutt: I had the Senators (bad) and Os(good) to root for
cease: no matter how creative you are, how is it that reallyh old people continue to tour?
Mutt: Did get to see Ted Williams when he managed the Senators for a blink.
Deputy Dang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmCOYS_9bIM Danny Kaye DODGERS song
cease: this scene was in their flick Missing Yolks
Mutt: Have both your sets on XD
cease: my blue jays just won their diviison over the yankees but the continuend use of fuck by the manager of the jays on tv i find disconcerting
cease: i may be the origin of this. appaently there were very few of us recording he shows at the time
cease: their continued riff on missed numberfs i found tediuos even then
Tweeny: fortuitous that you did, as the originals were stolen :(
Tweeny: or am I thinking of the radio shows
cease: true
cease: yes i taped several shows
Tweeny: So these were also simulcast on KPFK?
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Open up, your door knocker fell off!"
Tweeny: on RFO?
cease: i'm amazed that many others didn't record the shows
cease: no, krla. later kppc and kmet, maybe more
Tweeny: they may have, but got lost over the years
cease: makes sense now, tween, but the internet has been aound a long time now. it's easy ot connect here and find fellow firesign fans
cease: the lads were in love with an indian accent at this time
Deputy Dang: I had a friend in LA that would put a cassette recorder next to his radio, and record The Dr Demento Show from KMET for me. BTW, Dr Demento retired this month. There will be no "Funny 25" in 2025.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Get on it and do it every day!"
cease: bummer. he was an institution
Deputy Dang: I lived in Tampa, FL at the time.
llan: dylan
Deputy Dang: Wikipedia says he (Dr Demento) is 84 years old.
cease: dd y'all see the new dylan flick? a comlpete unknown
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Everyone knew her as Nancy."
cease: 10 years older than me. i have really began to feel old this year.
Mutt: Tthe good doc has been at it a long time
Mutt: He will be missed but good for him
Mutt: Gary India
cease: when i first head this in 67, i thought, i can't write anything as good as this. i wanted to meet and work with them. 30 years later it happend
Mutt: And we all benefitted, cease
cease: true
cease: that's what we do as sentient beings. just push it along
Mutt: Standing on shoulders
cease: i vaguely remember arthur murray
cease: newton standing on a case of fig newtons
Mutt: It’s fig newtons all the way down
cease: lol
cease: gravity, and its opposite, comedy
Mutt: One of my favorite lines
Deputy Dang: This was a pretty awesome night!
llan: cool
Tweeny: Thanks for listening everybody!
cease: indeed, dang
Mutt: Thanks Tween!
Tweeny: Have a great week and we'll see you next time around :)
llan: thanks again tweeny and cat. see you all next week.
cease: maybe more df next week, eh?
Mutt: Thanks cease, DD and Llan!
Deputy Dang: I'll be back in a week! G'nite all!
||||||||| 8:00 PM -- llan left for parts unknown.   (Entry from Nick Danger's "Idiots I Have Been Paid To Follow").
Tweeny: and don't be shy about making requests to Cat and me for what you'd like to hear
||||||||| Mutt rushes off, saying "8:00 PM? Mark Time is almost on! Where's a radio?"
||||||||| "8:00 PM? I'm late!" exclaims Deputy Dang, who then dashes out through the french doors and down through the brambles.
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| cease leaves at 8:00 PM, singing "Oh, I'm just a little fishy, floating in the sea, and there ain't no hook that's smart enough to catch the likes of me..."
Tweeny: Until last time, again...
||||||||| Tweeny rushes out the back door as Mayor P'nisnose blasts through the front door holding a shotgun and shouting "Where's Tweeny?! It's 8:00 PM and my ballot boxes haven't been stuffed yet!"
||||||||| DJTweeny leaves at 8:00 PM, singing "Oh, I'm just a little fishy, floating in the sea, and there ain't no hook that's smart enough to catch the likes of me..."
||||||||| Catherwood ushers Tweeny in through the front door at 8:00 PM, picks up his cues (only slightly scorched), and heads for the billiard room.
||||||||| It's 1:15 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| llanwydd - dead from the fiddlers
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
