||||||||| Catherwood says "8:00 PM, time for SOMEONE to leave!", grabs Tweeny by the collar and gives 'em the old bum's rush out the door
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| Catherwood strides up and announces "Presenting 'Deputy Dang', just granted probation at 8:00 PM", then leaves hurriedly.
||||||||| CarryBagMan enters at 8:00 PM as Catherwood takes their hat and goat and scurries off to the Chapeau Manger.
Deputy Dang: Howdy, CarryBagMan!
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
CarryBagMan: Howdy from beautiful Ypsilanti, MI. It's my second chat so don't call me a virgin!
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Guaranteed by the Department of Redundancy Dept. and the Natural Guard."
Deputy Dang: I visited Ypsilanti for a week, about 20 years ago. It was at the end of winter, not quite spring.
CarryBagMan: oh wow!
Deputy Dang: I haven't heard either of these pieces, as far as I know.
||||||||| cease enters at 8:00 PM as Catherwood takes their hat and goat and dashes off to the Chapeau Manger.
Deputy Dang: Howdy, cease!
cease: Hi all
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "A stiff idiot is the worst kind."
CarryBagMan: Grew up in Cleveland -- so I love all the Cleveland refs Bergman drops - but moved to Detroit in 95, Ypsi in 2002. Great town, right next to Ann Arbor (which has turned into an expensive town to be kind).
cease: everyone on this chat should have this collection.
cease: bergman always talked about his clevland roots
Deputy Dang: I think I have the Duke of Madness Motors DVD but have not listened to it.
cease: proc and berg filmed a wonderful video in ann arbor when they did a show from its radio station.
cease: dop so, dang
cease: do it
cease: we are listening to the first 2 dear freiends today
||||||||| Beet steals in around 8:00 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last night's "unpleasant incident."
Beet: Evening, Friends!
cease: io jusrt read huslesy the other day, Brave New World
cease: hi beet
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Beet!
CarryBagMan: Beet it!
cease: stinko, eh?
Beet: Hi, Cease, BagMan, deputy.
cease: i hope to have a new collage for next week, based on the song Tennessee Stud, by Doc Watson
Beet: How's everyone doing?
cease: i am in slighly less pain than last week, thank grid
cease: you an old firesighn ban, bagman?
cease: fan
CarryBagMan: I'm 56, in my prime!
Beet: Doc Watson lived near where I was in North Carolina.
cease: bagman is curiously close to bergman
cease: did you hear him perform, beet?
Beet: Unfortunately, no.
||||||||| Catherwood tiptoes into the room, and intones "Announcing 'BuzzyKrumhunger ', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the anteroom...
CarryBagMan: Yeah, I've been into them ever since Night Flight aired a Nick Danger episode and I went deep. The albums blew me away with the stereo soundfield. It was like I had found the Pink Floyd of comedy.
cease: tghe version i wanted for my collage had the lyric, "i whopped her brother and i whooped her pa" but fuckibng Youtube gave me a vesion where doc sings "slapped her pa" which is a different thing entirely
Beet: Hi, Buzzy.
cease: what is night flight? i'm in canada, eh?
CarryBagMan: But I was already a Bob and Ray fan, so they had prepared me for this type of madness.
cease: hi bunny.
BuzzyKrumhunger : Greetings all.
cease: yeah, carry. proctor was VEry influcend by them.
CarryBagMan: Night Flight was a late night, weekend show on the USA Network (cable network, mostly reruns during the day). Showed stuff like Devo, Firesign, weird documentaries, and sometimes Firesign.
Beet: A guy named Mac Gayden who wrote "Everlasting Love" also lived nearby. Differenet kind of writing. I did hear him perform, though.
cease: i think the Proc and Berg vid, done by someone named BAmbi, was on that station
cease: Tihs is Great Radio to Watch, it was called.
BuzzyKrumhunger : Re: Bob&Ray…Was there a bit of theirs about the railway’s Last Spike at Promontory Point? I had a radio comedy classic album that may or may not had had this bit.
Beet: I loved Bob and Ray. Very funny.
cease: i should listen to more of them. goons too.
cease: i dont[ know this stuff. it is eternally new
Beet: There is an album they produced called "Bob an Ray Thro a Stereo Spectacular" which was partially a stereo demonstration record. YouTube might have it.
Beet: throw
CarryBagMan: You know, I LOVED that Stereo Spectacular album. It really was like proto-Firesign.
CarryBagMan: And that their strange sense of humor lives on in one their kids, Chris Elliot.
cease: someone talked about Downhill
cease: Racer recently on Facebook after Redford died.
CarryBagMan: Wasn't that Phil saying that about Groucho? Don't they often accuse him of being a name dropper?
Beet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAhLitIrKmM
cease: In their HOur HOur show aftrer they returned from the east coast, ossman bitches about the flick
cease: that was the KBOO show last week, carry
CarryBagMan: I said it before, but that KBOO sounds so "Firesign" just makes it great.
cease: in my new play, the best writing i've done is the speech by the president of palestine, mohammed goldstein.
Beet: Is he a Two State president?
cease: the play is called Centennial, and the idea it's a celbration of the centennial of the Weimare Republic
Beet: lol
cease: No, HItler died in jail so no Nazis, no WW2, no holocaust, no israel
cease: i've been thinking about this for at least 27 years, since my daughter's killer was let bo by pretending to be crazy
cease: British Columbia, where I live, is hideously lenianrt on criminals
Beet: It's risky saying someting like "no Israel".
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Not responsible! Park and lock it!"
CarryBagMan: a play on the Weimar Republic? That's Weilld! (I'll see myself out...)
cease: no. there wold be no need. with no holocaust, there would have been no need for its creation. in my play, gazaa is a tech hub where 45 languages are spoken in the ciyt of Rafaa
cease: also no nucleare bombs. i asked chat gpt about the scenario and it, as an american bot, said, the us would not be a greart power
Beet: Whoever Earle was, he was a rascal.
cease: The Live Earl Jive, their producer for this show
cease: not his real name
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Son, it's in the water - that's why it's yellow."
cease: he's on the cover of trhe Dear Friends album
cease: how many people of their intelligence believe in astrology?
||||||||| It's 11:45 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| BuzzyKrumhunger - dead from intense demonic possession
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
cease: by buzz
cease: this is gresatr stuff, and so few of us are here to appreciate it
CarryBagMan: The Live Earl Jive has a better ring to it than Vaughn Filkins.
cease: true, carry
Beet: You can tell by Electrician that they were very conversant with pop spirituality - "Paramahansa parlez-vous".
cease: indeed
CarryBagMan: No I'm wondering, on the cover of Dear Friends, is he the guy drinking water or the guy talking to the girl.
Beet: I forgot the "Yogananda". Sorry.
cease: I was wrong. He's the lnog blond hair guy on the inner photo collage
cease: top right corner
CarryBagMan: gotcha
cease: george putnam was a very right-wing news guy on la tv in the 60s. my dad's ford dealership used to advertise on his popular news show
CarryBagMan: As a fan of reverb, I approve of this episode.
Beet: cool
cease: thatr was new to me though it's been in my collection for decades
||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
cease: i'm using the song ramblin, gamblin willie by dylan on my new collage.
cease: this is from 1971, 6 years after I first appeared on radio
Beet: It's that time again. Gotta split. Enjoyed the show and hanging out with you good folks. Have a great weekend and I'll see everyone next week. G'Nite.
cease: by beet. i hope you had a good time
CarryBagMan: "A place to lay down and worry about things"
cease: worrying is best done standing up
CarryBagMan: So much Earl tonight
cease: duke of earl madness
||||||||| Catherwood says "8:00 PM, time for SOMEONE to leave!", grabs Deputy Dang by the collar and gives 'em the old bum's rush out the door
cease: by dang
cease: the chat is based on your contnualr appearance
CarryBagMan: duke of earl!!!
cease: i remembrt thisd song
CarryBagMan: They knew he was a drug addict. He was hanging out with the puffer fish.
cease: will yuo join us here next week, carry? i wil have new collage bssed on the song Tennessee Stud
CarryBagMan: Think so.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Stop torturing me Ethyl!"
cease: three are few of us
CarryBagMan: three is a magic number. School House Rock taught me that.
cease: i have promotring firesign since 1967, with limited success
CarryBagMan: They're "Not for everyone", but I know I've turned plenty of friends, dear friends, onto them.
cease: but a lot of my recordings came in to theri cds
cease: plenty is aspirational
cease: have you reads Steppenwolfe? It's not for everybody
CarryBagMan: Read it in college.
cease: Hesse's idesa of the magic circus which is not for Everybody remindes me of the black box theoy of linguistics, that al our btrains are black boxes
cease: jurs re-read it recently. worth doing
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "They never come up into the hills."
cease: This show, and most Firesign, says to listeners, listen, and pay attention, and slowyly slide into enlighteenment
CarryBagMan: Chomsky involved? I heard he literally can't speak now. Sad. Sad irony too...
cease: Bummer
cease: But Tweny and me can stillo do this wekely show
CarryBagMan: Setting a reminder for the next show. GOODNIGHT ALL and THANKS!!!
cease: i an deteriorating. will keep doing these shows as lng as i can.
||||||||| Around 8:00 PM, cease walks off into the sunset...
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
