||||||||| Tweeny departs at 8:00 PM, singing "Toad away, toad away; toad away, toad away! Where do you go when you're toad away?"
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, March 13, 2025 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| Bottles steals in around 8:00 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last week's "unpleasant incident."
Bottles: Hey yall
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "He can shout, don't hear you."
||||||||| Catherwood steals into the room, and intones "Announcing 'Deputy Dang', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the Aviary...
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Bottles!
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "These insignificant lumps came together..."
||||||||| With a theatrical clearing of his throat, Catherwood intones: "8:00 PM and late as usual, it's Cease, just back from Billville."
Cease: Hi Dang. Great to see you here, Bottles
||||||||| Catherwood sneaks into the room, and snorts derisively "Announcing 'Beet', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the anteroom...
Beet: Greetings!
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Deputy Dang: Howdy, Cease! Howdy, Beet!
Beet: Hi, Deputy, Cease, Bottles.
Bottles: Hi Dang, Cease, Beet & all!
Beet: That sexy song.
Beet: Proctor is fabulous here.
||||||||| Outside, the 8:00 PM crosstown bus from Funfun Town pulls away, leaving llanwydd coughing in a cloud of diesel fumes.
llanwydd: good evening folks
Beet: Hey, Lln.
Cease: Beet, llan
Deputy Dang: Howdy, llanwydd!
Cease: Is anyone here listening to Proctor's radio show?
Bottles: Hi llanwydd
Cease: Tuesday from 2-3 on KPFK.
llanwydd: no, I was about to cue up Dharma Solnit
Deputy Dang: https://www.kpfk.org/on-air/phil-and-teds-sexy-boomer-show/
Cease: Some of the Dear Friends episode were recorded at KPFK, and of course Firesign was born there.
Bottles: I wonder if his show is on the Pacifica network elsewhere. What's it called?
Cease: I began this collage last week.
Cease: Love her voice. Just heard a new intreview with her this afternoon: https://the.ink/p/the-stupid-coup
Cease: Phil and Ted's Sexy Boomer Show
Bottles: I'll look for it. I'm on the program committee
Cease: It was REbecca's book A Paradise Built in Hell inspired me to create my play CAST. Tween is in that, and llan too I think?
Cease: It was a talk she gave in Santa Fe last August that inspired me to go to Santa Fe in Oct.
Cease: AAnd speaking of my travelling to your country, I'll be there on Sunday.
Bottles: This is Rebecca Solnik? I love her articles!
Cease: The annual Vegas trip.
Cease: Haven't you heard her voice before, Bottles?
Cease: She has a brand new newsletter, check it out.
Bottles: No. You turned me onto her, Cease.
Cease: wow
Cease: She's a bay area person, like you.
Bottles: I have to type w one hand. It's getting really frustrating.
Cease: i know what that's like, Bottles
Cease: i'm not found of capital letters as it is.
Cease: Have you read any of her books?
Bottles: No, I'm not checking out books at our library.
Bottles: I doubt they carry her books anyway.
llanwydd: that reminds me, when I mentioned trump last week I said totalitarian when I meant imperialist
llanwydd: he is both in my opinion
Beet: Kind of go together/
llanwydd: lol
Bottles: Sorry about DJT's insults to your great country and PM, Canadians.
llanwydd: not your fault, bottles
Cease: the premier of BC said in a news conference this week that Canadians are pissed off at trump. First time I've ever heard a politician say that .
Beet: I fear we are going to have a lot of apologizing to do for the next four years.
Cease: i suspect you're right, Beet
Bottles: I'm not embarrassed to be American, just of those Americans who voted him in.
Bottles: Calif should secede.
Cease: i just started a book about the Weimar Republic called Vertigo.
Cease: My new play starts there.
Beet: Gavin Newsom is a bad symbol for California.
Cease: You still writing plays, Bottles?
Cease: I'm going to start recording voices for my new play in Vegas on Sunday.
Bottles: Not since Septuagenerians, Cease
Cease: any ideas?
Bottles: Not really. We have a few plays to record. I'm taking a couple months off.
llanwydd: I have done some playwriting but never got anything finished
Bottles: I've never had anything published either llan, except one obituary.
Cease: lol
Cease: It was Phil's late wife Melinda that convinced me to write radio plays.
Bottles: Working on a novel of Soldier girl, my first play. My friend really wants to see it before she dies.
Cease: And Phil's new girl friend is an old DJ
Cease: Great idea, Bottles.
Bottles: Actually she wants to see a movie of it, HA! Fat chance.
Cease: I could see it as a flick.
Bottles: I guess. But battle scene? Impossible.
Beet: Watched the Dylan movie last night. Pretty good, I think.
Bottles: Not yet
Cease: i want to see that.
Bottles: I mean I haven't seen it yet.
Cease: the dawn of everything is one of the best books I read last year.
Cease: along with The Light Eaters
Cease: this is a gary snyder poem. i must do a collage about him.
Bottles: I read about him as Japhie Ryder in Dharma Bums.
Cease: indeed
Cease: and he's still alive!
Bottles: I just can't seem to appreciate poetry.
Cease: that was more of a story than a poem
Bottles: Except basic stuff like Longfellow
Cease: i have difficulty reading it but hearing it read well is exquisitie.
Bottles: Oh, of course it was prose.
Cease: all the firesign were excellent poets but ossman is a league beyond them.
Bottles: I went to a poetry workshop, and it forced me to write one or 2
Cease: he thinks of himself as a poet, just as i think of myself as radio play producer.
llanwydd: I heartily agree about ossman, cat
Bottles: I wrote about walking, and all the streets here named after trees.
llanwydd: in fact I thought he was the best writer of all of them
Deputy Dang: My neighborhood streets have tree names and are in alphabetical order.
Cease: parts of vancouve are like that too.
Bottles: A small portion of the town has East West North & South names, sorta marking the city limits 100 years ago.
llanwydd: there is a town just south of me that has streets named for trees, mostly palm trees; date palm, sable palm
llanwydd: etc but there is also mango tree drive and oterh trees as well
Cease: when i met my wife, i was living on Oak st.
Bottles: Also streets named for nearby counties like Eureka, Trinity, Shasta, Yuba etc
llanwydd: yeah we have Live Oak Street here as well
Cease: there's always Dutch Elm St.
llanwydd: palmetto street and some others
Bottles: I didn't notice it till someone pointed out the county reference
llanwydd: yeah dutch elm. sound very familiar. I forget what album that was on
Cease: bozos
llanwydd: of course
Bottles: Who's Doc Technical?
Cease: good question, Bottles.
llanwydd: a character from Mark Time on the Dear Friends album
Cease: REal Name Tom O'Neill. One of the founders of this chat. Also my producer of Red Shiftr. You'll be hearing his voice in it.
Bottles: Ah so.
Bottles: Ever seen the Henry Aldrich movies? Sort of a model for High School Madness I think.
Bottles: My mom turned me onto them when I was a little kid.
Bottles: Maybe I mentioned them before
llanwydd: Henry! Henry Aldrich! coming mother
Cease: I know of them but can't recall having seen any
Bottles: H.A. Haunts A House is on archive.org Cease
Cease: thanks. i'l check it out.
llanwydd: the resemblance to archie and jughead is evident as well
Bottles: That's him, llan.
Bottles: Henry's sidekickwas Dizzy
||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
Bottles: Hi Catherwood
||||||||| Catherwood walks alongside Bottles and queries "Did you need me?"
Bottles: Need you? Um sure, the dishes need washing
Beet: Catherwood, do the dishes.
||||||||| Catherwood rushes alongside Beet and yells "Stop typing gibberish, Beet!"
Cease: Next week at this time I
Cease: I';; be in he Seattle Airport. Perhaps I can chat from there.
Beet: That would be cool.
Bottles: Sorry, ...Haunts A House is gone, but there's another one Cease
Cease: Don't recall making that intro.
Cease: Brian Westley, another chat founder. and deep Firesign insider.
Cease: Here's Austin
Cease: Solnit's Buddhism talk seems to flow well into this play, which is basically about Buddhism
Cease: That was Doc Tech
Cease: this is westley
Cease: He was Mervyn Leroy on chat.
llanwydd: I remember him
Cease: a regular here for many years
Bottles: I do too, a tech whiz I seem to recall
Cease: Here's Elayne THE found of chat
Cease: yes, did a LOT of work on Firesign web projectrs
Cease: That boy is taking over from his dad, Orson Ossman is doing lots of creative stuff trhese days.
Cease: He created Treasure Island as an audio project, wth Taj Mahal doing the music
Cease: also a new play on Whidbey
Bottles: cool
Bottles: Seen Black Sails? A prequil to Treasure Island
Cease: this was recorded in 1998. an old play
Cease: he was 8 then.
Cease: no i haven't. should i?
Cease: i must re-read Treausre Island again. i know i read it as a kid, but only recall it was about pirates
llanwydd: I saw the treasure island with jackie cooper but not the disney version
Bottles: It's a series, so not unless you're into that. But I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thought it was well done.
Cease: that guy playing Mao is an old chatter. forget his nick
Cease: htis chat is 30 years old!
Bottles: All about Silver, Cap'n Flint and Pugh, Billy Bones etc
llanwydd: lol
Cease: David Graeber has a book about pirates i want to read.
Cease: here's Bunnyboy, another old regular
Cease: Solnit quotes from Graeber in the previous collage.
Cease: i had some amazing red wines in France.
Cease: no surprise.
Cease: that was funny writing
Cease: trying to write funny stuff for new play
Bottles: Gotta eat. Adios.
llanwydd: nite bottles
Cease: that's Medlnda
Cease: Melinda
Cease: by bottles
||||||||| Bottles rushes off, saying "8:00 PM? Mark Time is almost on! Where's a radio?"
llanwydd: austin said uni-verse in that same pronunciation on neal amid
Cease: yes
Beet: See ya later, Bottles.
Cease: this is amazing acting from Ossman and Proc
llanwydd: great drumming there
llanwydd: tight vocal section as well
Cease: that was stuff I got from an allan watts lecture.
Cease: about bhuddism as a conversation.
Deputy Dang: That was a nice sequence from spot to dick and jane to cheetah
Cease: there are some wonderful segments in this
Cease: here's proc
Cease: that was my dog Mami
Cease: doc also does some splendid acting on this
Cease: but ossman and proctor here are a master class in acting. you completely believe them
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Don't worry about the flies, we won't weigh 'em!"
Cease: i jusrt used this bit in the Solnit collage
Cease: will try and connect to chat next thurs from seattle air port.
llanwydd: is that the end?
Cease: what?
llanwydd: yeah, hope you can make it,Cat
Cease: me too. i treid to coonect from santa fe but restaurant wuoldnt let me use their wifi
Deputy Dang: That was different. I think I would have to listen to it a few times to catch more of the details. Thank you, Cease!
Cease: i do my best
llanwydd: yeah. thats a really cool play
||||||||| 8:00 PM -- Deputy Dang left for parts unknown.   (Entry from Nick Danger's "Idiots I Have Been Paid To Follow").

||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| It's 1:15 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Beet - dead from dengue fever
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
