||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 4 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| It's 4:30 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Tweeny - dead from the fiddlers
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, September 26, 2024 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| 8:00 PM: Tweeny jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past half hour!"
||||||||| 8:00 PM: Deputy Dang jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past year and a half!"
Deputy Dang: Tweeny, for the last two weeks, there have been times during the show when the audio drops out for seconds at a time, then picks back up. Last week, I think I was the only one who lasted to the end. Other than the dropouts, the audio was fine--no static or distortions or noise or whatevers.
||||||||| Catherwood accompanies morlog into the room, accepts a grimy quarter as a gratuity, mutters something about 8:00 PM, then departs.
Deputy Dang: Howdy morlog!
morlog: hey there
||||||||| Beet sneaks in around 8:00 PM, trying to avoid Catherwood because of last night's "unpleasant incident."
Beet: Howdy, pardners.
Beet: Howdy, pardners.
Deputy Dang: Howdy Beet!
Beet: Pardon the repeat.
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Beet: Hi, Deputy
||||||||| "8:00 PM? 8:00 PM!!" says Catherwood, "Cease should be here by now...oh, THERE you are!" as Cease enters and sits on the divan.
Beet: How are you, this fine Thursday evening?
Beet: Howdy, Cease.
Deputy Dang: I'm very tolerable; thank you for asking.
Cease: I am indeed
Tweeny: Evenin' compadres
Deputy Dang: Howdy Cease!
Tweeny: Yo morlog
Beet: Hi, morlog
Beet: Hi, Tweeny.
Cease: Mmm. Mushrooms
Beet: Put some on my pizza, please.
Cease: I remember recording this on Christmas Eve, 1967. It was their Christmas play
Tweeny: wow, cool
Cease: I believe this is my recording.
Tweeny: so gald you recorded their radio broadcasts
Tweeny: *glad, even
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Shoes for Industry! Shoes for the Dead!"
Cease: Also the last six hour hours, on the Duke of Madness collction
Cease: I'm just surprised lots of other people weren't recording these
Tweeny: let alone the stations that broadcast them
Cease: LA is a big city with a lot of people with tape recorders, who I'm sure were istening
Tweeny: RFD has recordings of pretty much everything that's been broadcast
Cease: that's good
morlog: cool
morlog: i like cheese
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "You first bag will be your last."
Cease: lots of people like cheese, morlog
Cease: some even like cheese logs
Tweeny: morlog: i like cheese << american or communist?
Tweeny: don't think I've ever eaten a cheese log
morlog: they are good
morlog: like cheese balls
Tweeny: sounds about as appealing as a christmas fruit loaf
Cease: they are indeed. and speaking of eating, this time next week I'll be here: https://www.restaurantmartin.com/
||||||||| A time machine materializes at 8:00 PM and Mutt bounds out, carrying a grape from ancient Greece.
Tweeny: Hi Mutt
Mutt: Evening all
morlog: like sushi but with cheese and nuts instead of fish and seaweed
Cease: HI Mutt
Beet: Hey, Mutt.
Mutt: Hey twee!
Mutt: Tween
Cease: intresting comparison, morlog
Tweeny: This sounds like a precursor to Proctor & Bergman's TV or Not TV
Mutt: Hi Beet and cease
Cease: it is
Cease: i suggested we listen to TV or Not TV and Dwarf next week, as they both derive from today's mushroom plays
||||||||| Gusts of wind blow in from outside and the thumpa-thumpa-thumpa of helicopter blades is heard as Happy Panditt's chopper lands on the lawn and Not Ed disembarks at 8:00 PM.
Not Ed: welly welly wel
Cease: hi not
Not Ed: waz real Tweeny, DDang, morlog, Beet, Cease
Beet: Yo, Not
Not Ed: hey C
Not Ed: Yo!
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Back from the Shadows again."
Mutt: Hey Deputy and Mr. Not
Not Ed: Hey Mutt
Cease: you have to be quite old to know what blue laws were
Cease: anyone remember not shopping on sundays? that was a blue law.
Deputy Dang: yup
Mutt: I remember them. One town near me didn’t lift its law until the 1990s
Cease: wow
morlog: there are still blue laws
Mutt: The blue laws for booze lasted a lot longer
||||||||| A time machine materializes at 8:00 PM and ''Bob'' steps out, carrying a grape from ancient Greece.
morlog: still have them here
Cease: "Greetings" Bob
''Bob'': Greeatings! Is the stream down for everyone or just me?
morlog: working here
Cease: It is up for us.
Mutt: Mine is fine
Mutt: There have been issues recently
''Bob'': Weird. Winamp isn't cooperating tonight for some reason.
Cease: yes there were some last week, and apparently 2 weeks before
''Bob'': Ah, there she goes. Weird. Probably Comcast's fault somehow.
Cease: rember the flick Road to Morocco
Mutt: Blame ‘em anywho
Cease: Hope, Crosby and Dorothy LaMour
Mutt: Love the road pics
Cease: they were hilarious
Mutt: Patty cake patty cake!
Cease: That was Proc as Benny. He also played Benny in my play Neal Amid.
Tweeny: mmmmmmm patty cake
Cease: I was in LA recoriding it and I met Harry Shearer at the DAT store in Santa Monica.
Mutt: Lol
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "We own the idea of NOW."
Tweeny: definitely the precursor to TV :)
Cease: He asked what brought me to town, and I told him, I was recording Proc as Benny
Cease: Harry said, "I can do a better Benny than Proctor". Not surprising as he was on the Benny show.
Mutt: Wow
Mutt: And wow again
Tweeny: As morlog recently posted on facebook, "If people make you sick, you should cook them longer"
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Train's comin' through - right now!"
Tweeny: good one ;)
Cease: "The problem is, I'd have to PAY you" I told him. Phil and Melinda did my plays for free
Mutt: One of the many reasons Mr. Procmer is beloved
Cease: Many indeed
Cease: It was Melinda who suggested I create radio plays.
Cease: This is definitley my recording.
Tweeny: nice
Beet: I like these.
''Bob'': Between all these new Firesign releases and the forthcoming Bonzo Dog Band box set, I'm going to be a poor man.
Mutt: We all owe yinz a lot, cease, for preserving these
Cease: This is almost identical, but not quite, to KWKWT
Cease: It was indadvertant, Mutt.
Cease: I expected many people to be recording this
Cease: KWT is on the Duke collection, live from NYC
Not Ed: Austin was the same in that regard - I asked if he could make up some random lines for one of our space games - like announcements on board a starship in the background - I asked what I should pay him and he said no pay - wow - I mean, that's the way we all worked on our games - super indie - we ended up doing something else though so it didn't happen - nice to connect with though
Mutt: I get you but still you did it
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Don't worry about the flies, we won't weigh 'em!"
Not Ed: with him though
Cease: True, Mutt. Firesign have been centrsl to my life since 1967.
Cease: INdeed, Not.
Cease: That sounds like the Firesign guys I know.
Not Ed: Indeedy
Cease: Their idea, like mine, is to produce as much good stuff for as many people as possible.
''Bob'': With so many celebrities getting cancelled recently, it's nice to hear good things about some of my favorite performers.
Cease: Indeed, Bob
Not Ed: Cool Bob
''Bob'': I mean, the 4 or 5 aren't exactly celebrities to most people, but, still. ;)
||||||||| Catherwood stumbles in at 8:00 PM, dragging llanwyddorsomeonelikehim by one foot and asks "Can anyone vouch for this Yahoo ™?"
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: good evening
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "I have proof I've been to ancient Greece, look at this grape!"
Cease: HI Llan
Mutt: The first time I met Austin we ended up talking about the radio shows (i was on my college station) and he sends me Live from the Ash grove a few weeks later. A mensch!
Beet: Hi, llan
Tweeny: Hi llan
Cease: Hey Llan, did you play a Ruissian general, big role, in Smetana?
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: thats cool, mutt
Cease: That whe was Mutt. All of them.
Not Ed: Firesign is like Nilsson - you mention them and people either say oh yeah they were great! classic! while others will say who??
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "I hate rich people. I hate them and their stupid problems."
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I was not in that one, cat
''Bob'': Yeah, exactly. Instant friend maker. ;)
Not Ed: there's no in between : )
Not Ed: hey llan
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: is there someone who loos or sounds like me in Smetana?
Cease: Bummer. I'm using your Einstein in Act 4 which is now in production
Cease: I know you did some of the Russian soldiers in the play.
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: so what is a bummer?
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Mister policeman, what makes America great?"
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: is smetana a movie, a play...?
Cease: Russian General is a big role. I thought I had your voice as that role, but if not, I'm gonna need a new voice soonest.
Cease: Yes Smetana is my new play. You play Einstein in it.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "More coffee, warden?"
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I am definitely one of the russians
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: or two or three
Cease: It's been in pre-production for a few years, but want to have it all done and online by first week in nOVEMBER. that's soon
Not Ed: isn't that the cheesy build up on a penis?
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I just might be the Russian General in Smetana
Not Ed: oh wait that's something else
Mutt: Lol
morlog: smegma
Not Ed: doh! of course!
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Train's comin' through - right now!"
Mutt: Spasmodic
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: would you send me some audio of the general? and then if it is not me, then you already have your general
Deputy Dang: this isn't the greatest for audio
Cease: Our friend Steph, who played my daughter Bit in the last play, did such a wonderful job as a young girl that I cast her a 7 year old girl who beocmes head of the Russian army in smetana, act 4. she's coming over this weekend
Not Ed: Smetana, Spasmodic, Frogg didn't sound right
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: but I would be very happy to record if you need me to.
Mutt: Law firm
Not Ed: haha right lol
Cease: Smetana is the Ukrainian word for Sour Cream. my only Ukrainian words

||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
Cease: i was 17 and draft age.

llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: but what do I expect, Gone With the Wind?
Cease: my dad and his brothers sold cars
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: oh, your dad told you all about it bob?
Not Ed: a friend in finland was captured on the way out for not doing his mandatory service - which he had to do before they let him leave again - it sucked too - he hated it
Not Ed: he's VERY not the military type
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: at least they didnt send him to vietnam

Not Ed: hey is the old FST FAQ from the newsgroup still around?
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I have read both
Cease: was good as it was when I first read it, but that was in the late 60s
Cease: oh, we missed the fuck thre, tween
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I read one other hesse novel called demian. probably my least favorite of the three
''Bob'': http://www.faqs.org/faqs/firesign-theatre/
Tweeny: ehhh, no big deal
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I missed it too
Not Ed: great! thanks!
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: dont worry about the fcc

Not Ed: I dunno but it sounds great
Not Ed: Miller! thanks
''Bob'': Man, I need to get my turntable set back up. Probably have it on LP, but been forever since I listened to those.
Not Ed: ditto
''Bob'': I shouldn't be allowed to buy new music when I can't even remember what I have already. ;)
Not Ed: ha!
Not Ed: heard that
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: why buy music when you have it on youtube?
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: well, I can see some reasons
Cease: saw miller at the hollywood paladium with the youngbloods and jj cale, i972. amazing
''Bob'': As a DJ, I must maintain my superiority over the young folks who plays songs off of Spotify at dances.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Surrounded by a thin thin thin 16mm shell. And inside, it's delicious!"
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: you probably dont have youtube in your car
Cease: Miller did this version of Wild Mt.Tyhlme that was mesmerizing
Beet: These guys are great: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_lu88CYCO49t9aYp4N_40615W5h6TtLK
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I have only been to four rock concerts in my life

||||||||| Tweeny dashes out the back door as Mayor P'nisnose blasts through the front door holding a shotgun and shouting "Where's Tweeny?! It's 8:00 PM and my ballot boxes haven't been stuffed yet!"
||||||||| Tweeny steps in at 8:00 PM carrying an obsidian door knocker.
''Bob'': I know that I've seen at least 150 artists, because at some point I started adding them to a list on rateyourmusic. But that's only the ones that actually have records on RYM.
Beet: I miss going to see live music. Don't have the chance much anymore.
''Bob'': I have a long list of "regret that I didn't see them while they were still around" though.
Beet: me too
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: oh me too. jethro tull, bob dylan, genesis...the list is endless
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "May I take your hat and goat?"

llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: he was very impressive in woodstock
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "May I see your passport, please?"
''Bob'': I'm still mad that Covid cancelled the Einstuerzende Neubauten show I had tickets for. Hopefully they make it back to the States and I get my chance.
Beet: Saw him in Houston after his peak.
Tweeny: Or John McLaughlin/Mahavishnu for that matter
Cease: i saw john with jean luc ponty here in van in maybe 74. amazing
Tweeny: wow, nice
''Bob'': Nice. Would love to have seen him with Zappa.
Cease: bily cobham on drums, as i recall. amazing concert. saw A LOT of Great Music in Van
''Bob'': Would love to have seen Zappa at all, for that matter.
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: could not get into that. solo violin irritates me
Cease: jean luc and john competed to see who could play the fastest. it was unreal
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: cant even listen to the sibelius violin concerto
Cease: like the story of the devil on fiddle
Cease: or is it just a song?
Beet: Devil Down in Georgia
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: yeah, it was the charlie daniels band. The Devil Went Down To Georgia
Cease: sis you like the group Sweetwater? One of the first groups I know of that made great use of strings
''Bob'': It's done properly on accordion, really. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vghb60sC38
Cease: that's it. thanks beet.
Cease: sweetwater was as fave of la bands when i was there in late 60s
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I really enjoy a string ensemble but I cant listen to solo violin
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "What's all this brou-ha-ha?"
''Bob'': Weirdly, "Devil" is the only song I've seen Charlie Daniels Band play live, because I randomly stumbled onto the end of their show at a state fair or something.
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I have eaten in two great restaurants called Sweetwaters
''Bob'': Was sitting here thinking it was time for dinner. Gonna order some pizza now.

''Bob'': I didn't even know Burns did a FLW biopic!
Beet: It's quite excellent. Everything he deos is good.
Beet: does
Not Ed: interesting
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I had a faux newspaper called the San Francisco Post Dispatch Intelligencer written by Phil Austin when I was in high school and it had some of those school lunch menus
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: now that I think of it, it might not have had sanfrancisco in the title but there must be some reason I remember it that way
Cease: wow
Cease: they did A LOT of stuff
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: yeah I got a lot of stuff in the mail when I subscribed to the Young Tom Edison Club back in the seventies
Cease: Austin lived there in early 60s. was in King Lear with a woman who later become very famous
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: some of it was really weird
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: PDI was not as big as a real newspaper. more like a pamphlet
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: with a nespaper motif
Cease: did you read the National Lampoon's newspaper? One of the funniest things I've ever read
''Bob'': "Anger is an energy." – Johnny Rotten
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: a shallow observation
''Bob'': Well, he's not a philosopher, that's for sure. LOL
''Bob'': So weird to see him all old and bougie these days.
Beet: Nice observation about Vincent.
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: yes I saw that sunday newspaper parody, cat. I hardly remember it,though
Tweeny: Speaking of young Thomas Edison, this is a really great movie about Edison/Westinghouse/Tesla >> The Current War - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2140507/
Cease: this week's return to the Sexy Boomer Show was about Tesla
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: thanks tweeny
Tweeny: The 1880s were quite a time of experimentation and innovation
''Bob'': How does Benedict Cumberbatch find the time to be in so many films?
Tweeny: Yeah, worth a watch llan
Tweeny: I sweat I thought it was Dennis Quaid until I saw the movie credits
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: not familiar with BC but if he doesnt have a lot of lines to learn it can be done
Tweeny: Cumberbatch did a great impersonation
Tweeny: *I swear
Beet: One of the best actors around.
''Bob'': LOL
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: well you sweat too, dont you?
''Bob'': Don't sweat it.
Tweeny: "I can't sweat!" ~ The Firesign Theatre
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: LOL
||||||||| At 8:00 PM, Deputy Dang dashes out the door saying "Hey, mister ice-cream man, I've got a nickel, wait for meeeee..."
''Bob'': "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration." – Thomas Edison (supposedly)
Tweeny: Actually I think that's an Einstein quote, Bob
Beet: This was a great listen. Enjoyed your company this evening, gents. Thanks to Cease and Tweeny. G'Nite.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Scalp 'em, Tantric!"
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: I heard it attributed to edison
''Bob'': Maybe Mark Twain. ;)
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Heavy on the 30 weight."
llanwyddorsomeonelikehim: Nite Beet

Tweeny: We'll see you next time Beet
Cease: I'll be logging in from Santa Fe next week
''Bob'': Byte Beet
''Bob'': It's complicated. https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison#:~:text=Genius%20is%20one%20percent%20inspiration%2C%20ninety%2Dnine%20percent%20perspiration.,still%20of%20the%20same%20opinion%22.
