||||||||| Around 8:00 PM, Tweeny walks off into the sunset...
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, May 23, 2024 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| 8:00 PM: Runny jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past five minutes!"
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 10 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| It's 10:00 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Runny - dead from Globner's disease
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| With a theatrical clearing of his throat, Catherwood pipes up: "8:00 PM and late as usual, it's Tweeny, just back from Billville."
||||||||| Catherwood sneaks into the room, and intones "Announcing 'Tirebiter', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the vestibule...
||||||||| Catherwood escorts Lombardy in through the front door at 8:00 PM, picks up his cues (only slightly scorched), and heads for the billiard room.
Lombardy: Hello folks
||||||||| Catherwood sneaks into the room, and pipes up "Announcing 'llanwydd', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the vestibule...
llanwydd: hi
llanwydd: hi
llanwydd: hmm
Lombardy: Sure am!
Tweeny: Hillan, Lombardy, Tirebiter
Tweeny: *Hi llan
Lombardy: Howdy!
llanwydd: I imagine cat is having brunch in a tapas bar right now
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "My nostrils flared at the smell of his perfume."
Lombardy: Nah he’s in the vestibule
llanwydd: looking forward to Next World
llanwydd: lol lombardy
Lombardy: Same, I haven’t heard this one yet
Lombardy: I just started listening last week, listened to electrician through everything you know is wrong
Tweeny: everybody tuned in to RFD?
Lombardy: Gonna order the Duke of madness motors next paycheck
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "They never come up into the hills."
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
||||||||| It's 11:00 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Tirebiter - dead from the fiddlers
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
llanwydd: I used to listen to it while watching the snow fall outside of my window when I was a teenager
||||||||| Catherwood ushers Beet into the room, accepts three dimes as a gratuity, grumbles something about 8:00 PM, then departs.
||||||||| Gusts of wind blow in from outside and the thumpa-thumpa-thumpa of helicopter blades is heard as Happy Panditt's chopper lands on the lawn and Deputy Dang disembarks at 8:00 PM.
Beet: Good Thursday Evening, Friends!
Tweeny: Oh Oh, The PD just announced that it's a rebroadcast :/
llanwydd: loved to look at the art work as well
llanwydd: Hey Beet
Tweeny: Hey Beet
Beet: Hi, llan.
Deputy Dang: Hey Beet
Tweeny: We'll find out soon if it's the right show
llanwydd: that is probably their best album cover
Tweeny: OK, this is the right show :)
||||||||| "8:00 PM? 8:00 PM!!" says Catherwood, "Cease should be here by now...oh, THERE you are!" as Cease enters and sits on the couch.
llanwydd: Hey Cat
Cease: Hi all
Beet: Howdy Deputy, Lombardy, Tweeny.
Lombardy: Howdy!
Tweeny: Hey Cease!
Tweeny: Great you could make it :)
Beet: Welcome home, Cat.
Cease: Still on Spanish time but here I am
Tweeny: Yeah, it's 1am there right?
Cease: I'm gonna use a lot of this in my collage about the trip.
llanwydd: did you get chased through the streets of paloma by a bull?
Cease: All that Spanish!
Beet: How was the tapas.
Cease: Never went to Pamplona. Never will
Cease: Some of them were great. Others, not so much.
Cease: In the sense that I went to Spain to eat what I thought would be the best food in the world, I was dissappointed. But I still had a great time.
Beet: Is there a typical time of day that you go to these places?
Cease: Generally, the best thing about the trip was the Spanish people I met.
llanwydd: my favorite spanish food is paella. I make it with everything you can think of
Cease: Actually they open for lunch, close in the afternoon for siestas, and then open again in the evenings.
||||||||| Catherwood ushers JZip in through the front door at 8:00 PM, picks up his cues (only slightly scorched), and heads for the billiard room.
Cease: I can't eat paella. My body can't deal with rice at all.
llanwydd: hey zip
Beet: Hi JZip
JZip waves
Cease: You're hip. Let's take a trip.
Lombardy: Hi zip
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "May I take your hat and goat?"
JZip: I'm random today, but not cool.
||||||||| Catherwood sneaks into the room, and snorts derisively "Announcing 'Just a bummer on the side tabl', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the Aviary...
Cease: Actgually, just got back from a trip.
JZip: I gathered that.
Cease: I'm getting too old for adventures.
llanwydd: and a drummer on the side tabla
Deputy Dang: Stick to astral travel ;-)
Cease: good idea, dang
llanwydd: I was fascinated with astral travel when I was a teenager
Cease: I have been wanting to go to Spain for a long time. Now I've been there.
Deputy Dang: It's the best way to avoid jetlag, too.
llanwydd: lol
Cease: Hopefuly will do enough intoxicants today to overcome it.
llanwydd: they say spain is pretty, though Ive never been
Tweeny: Welcome bummer
Tweeny: Hi JZip
Cease: it is indeed. The 4 cities I went to were delights for the eyes.
Beet: Hi, Bummer.
llanwydd: in de summer, fo da plummer
Cease: Also went to a Lot of art museums so it was relentless beuaty for 2 weeks.
Lombardy: Last month I went to Paris and London
Lombardy: t was great I needed a trip
llanwydd: oh my. did you see the prado?
Cease: Will make a collage about the trip, probably by July. There is so much to cover
Cease: First time there, Lombardy?
Lombardy: In London yes, I’d been to Paris twice
Cease: Yes I spent Tuesday at the Prado. I was there on mhy last trip to Madrid, in 02.
llanwydd: I have been to london. very impressive
Cease: Took an hour and a quarter to get in, but worth it.
Cease: I've only been to Heathrow, but seversal times in Paris. Also lots of great art and food there.
Cease: Actually food in France was better than in Spain, but that's because I went to major league restaurants there, not so much in Spain.
Lombardy: They were both great. I was able to get some weird comics that ere tough to find in the states.
Cease: You a comics fan?
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Decode your answer now."
Lombardy: Yeah, mostly stuff that isn’t superheroes.
Cease: This chat was founded by Elayne who is Way into comics. Her husband draws them.
llanwydd: I used to buy the horror comics back in the early seventies
Cease: She turned me on to Gaiman among others.
Lombardy: I picked up a bunch of moebius, some 2000 AD and Deadline Magazine, a comic by the author of barbarella(sadly couldn’t find a copy of barbarella but I’ll order an English edition online.)
llanwydd: I am familiar with the name neil gaiman. not familiar with his work
Cease: I was into Peanuts as a kid and then the underground comix. We had a comic genius here in Van, Rand Holmes.
Cease: HIs Sandman was turned into a series, for, maybe Netflicks? I prefer the comic to the TV show.
Cease: Generally i prefer comics on the page instead of the screen.
Lombardy: I’m not familiar with Rand Holmes. I love underground stuf. Mg favorites are Love and Rockets, R. Crumb, Furry Freak Brothers
Cease: I think the only reason the Peanuts TV shows worked is because of Vince Guaraldi's music.
Lombardy: I’ll look Rand Holmes up soon, thanks
Cease: Did you see the Freak Bros tv show?
Lombardy: I love peanuts, and a few other daily strips
llanwydd: I came across crumb and freak brothers in sixth grade but I wa busy with vault of horror, tales from the crypt and especially mad magazine
Cease: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=rand+holmes+comics
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "Deputy Dan has no friends."
Lombardy: I was disappointed when I saw how the animation ultimately looked, but I’ll give it a watch sometime
Cease: I was So looking forward to the Freak Bros TV show, but was vastly dissapointed.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "What's all this brou-ha-ha?"
Lombardy: I love all the EC stuff. I’m really into Harvey kurzman, mad magazine, trump magazine, etc. I think it’s all under the same umbrella as Firesign
Lombardy: Wish anyone my age knew about either loll
Lombardy: I exaggerate but still
Tweeny: Cease: I think the only reason the Peanuts TV shows worked is because of Vince Guaraldi's music. << You should point folks to your collage about that
Cease: I turned Fat Freddy's Cat into a radio show about 40 years ago. It's in the collage archive: https://s3.amazonaws.com/rfd-firesign/cat/chariot.mp3
Cease: Right, Tween: https://s3.amazonaws.com/rfd-firesign/cat/charlie_firesign_christmas.mp3
Cease: A Peanuts/Firesign mix
||||||||| Blane steps in at 8:00 PM carrying an obsidian door knocker.
Tweeny: Hi Blane
Cease: Hi Blane
Lombardy: Hi Blane
llanwydd: Hey Blane
Beet: Hello, Blaine.
Beet: Blane
llanwydd: who composed that music?
llanwydd: I have always been baffled by fst music
Cease: baffled?
llanwydd: yeah, who composes it and who plays it?
Cease: I know Austin did a lot of it.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "This hasn't happened to me since 'M'!"
Tweeny: Here are the liner notes for Next World >> https://www.firesigntheatrelegacy.com/media/media.php?item=nextworld-ln
llanwydd: thanks twee
Cease: they're all musical lads.
llanwydd: tween
llanwydd: interesting
Tweeny: No credits to musicians, so maybe they did it all?
llanwydd: all the brass and strings and all that?
Tweeny: Yeah, I was just thinking that. Don't know...
Tweeny: Could be synths
llanwydd: I think not
Cease: I think Glen Campbell played on the first album. Lots of studio musicians hired for the producitons.
Cease: I know Jeff Skunk Baxter played on Fighting Clowns.
llanwydd: interesting
Cease: Taj Mahal is doing the music for the latest produciton, Tresasure Island.
Cease: Hey Tween, did you get the Norman Corwin production I think I sent you? They just turned it into a video but we should play the auido.
Cease: An Otherworld Production, starring David, Phil, among others.
Cease: Richard Fish is pushing it. He's done A LOT of work with the Firesigns over the years, plus my last 2 plays (counting the new one)
Tweeny: Cat is that 'Between Americans'?
||||||||| It's 11:45 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Blane - dead from jaundice
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
Cease: Don't recall the name but I'm pretty sure I sent it to you before I went to Spain.
Cease: I can mix in some Firesign for it, such as the American Pageant
Deputy Dang: Is it "Before Spaniards"?
llanwydd: just between us america has lots of mousers
Cease: Actually, I thought of a lot of Firesign lines during my trip.
llanwydd: great ending to the album
Cease: I went to a bar which promised award winning tapa, but it turne out just to be baked hard cheese. You know their line about Hard Cheese?
Cease: Inded, llan
Tweeny: Cease: Don't recall the name but I'm pretty sure I sent it to you before I went to Spain. << I don't recall receiving anything other than your collages recently.
Cease: Lots of great endings to their albums.
JZip: That's an underrated record.
Cease: OK, I'll resend, Tween.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "And you can believe me - because I never lie, and I'm always right."
Cease: Did anyone see Winning Time, the HBO series about the Magic Johnson Lakers?
Lombardy: I really enjoyed that one. Thanks for sharing
Lombardy: Nobody tell me who the electrician is btw I’ve only listened to Sumatra once
Cease: First time here,Lombardy?
Lombardy: Yes. I just recently got into Firesign
Lombardy: I’m 30 years old, in Richmond VA
Beet: Welcome to Firesign and the chat, Lombardy.
Cease: Glad to have young people who can appreciate Firesign
Lombardy: Thanks!
Cease: Bergman once said they wrote their work for young people. of course that was people who were young in the 60s
||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly..
Tweeny: What a wonderful Kris Kristofferson parody
||||||||| It's 12:15 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:

Tweeny: RFD is working fine here
Cease: No problems here
Deputy Dang: I'm on rfd2 (rhymes with r2d2) and have audio
Cease: speaking of quad, i saw the most amazing museum exhibit in Madrid. Called Velasquez Teck, it takes Velasques's Las Maninans and does Amazing techie things with it.
Beet: Got it back.
Cease: A mirrored room full of images based loosely on the painting was the most amazing thing i've evern seen.
Cease: Will post it to my blog when I can get it together.
Cease: I hope to have it up by July. Temporary title: Cat Quixote and Sancho Telephone journey to Serendip
Cease: Should be more attuned to Pacific Time next week.
Cease: My body is still in Spain.
Deputy Dang: It will catch up with you one of these revolutions.
||||||||| Catherwood interjects: "What about my pickle?"
Cease: This is a very interesting explanation of the album.
Deputy Dang: I have zero understanding of the money flow in the audio industry.
Deputy Dang: I enjoyed myself! :-D
Deputy Dang: But I enjoyed the Firesign even more!
Cease: Great show, Tween. I'll try and contribute more next week when I re-enter North American time.
Beet: Enjoyed this tonight. See everyone next week. G'Nite all.
Deputy Dang: Thank you Kurt! We'll be back next week!
Tweeny: Everybody have a great week, and we'll see some of you next Tuesday :)
||||||||| "Hey Deputy Dang!" ... Deputy Dang turns, and sees Bradshaw approching with the handcuffs, and is dragged away, screaming "it's only 8:00 PM, I don't have to go yet!"...
||||||||| Tweeny says "Catherwood, call me a cab." After the obvious joke, Tweeny exits at 8:00 PM.
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
