||||||||| It's 8:00 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Rufus_T_Firetween - dead from the yaws
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, October 27, 2022 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!" -- then he looks around at the empty room, looks at his watch, and mumbles "...am I early?"
||||||||| A time machine materializes at 8:00 PM and johan amadeus myjetski bounds out, carrying a grape from ancient Greece.
johan amadeus myjetski: i must get a new knob for this time machine thingy!
||||||||| 8:00 PM: Rufus_T_Firetween jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past hour!"

Deputy Dang: I must be going blind (my mother warned me that would happen), but where is a link for the stream?

DJTweeny: Howdy Deputy
Deputy Dang: Howdy Dude!
DJTweeny: music in a couple of minutes
Deputy Dang: No worries. I'm early. Trying to get one of my college roommates to join in.
Deputy Dang: I had all of the LP releases through Eat or Be Eaten (which wasn't an LP, of course).
DJTweeny: Yeah it was
Deputy Dang: He was a fan of Mark Time, and like many of us, wished there had been more.
DJTweeny: (as well as a CD)

Deputy Dang: Well, yeah, it was, but it was the first CD with graphics on it, or something like that.
DJTweeny: The CD had some graphics code that could be played on a compatible player
DJTweeny: Would be cool if they posted the video to the new web site
DJTweeny: but they're still working on finding a source for most of the the albums
Deputy Dang: Ooh, that's an idea! I never have seen the graphics. IT wouldn't play on the hardware I had at the time, and now... well, my last two laptops (that's all I have these days) don't have CD players at all!
DJTweeny: Mac got rid of optical drives some years back, but you still attach one of course
DJTweeny: but the graphics won't work on just any CD player
Deputy Dang: Yeah, at one point, I had a USB 3.5" floppy drive. I haven't done that with a CD/DVD yet.
||||||||| 8:00 PM: llanwydd jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past year and a half!"
llanwydd: howdy
Deputy Dang: Howdy pardner!
DJTweeny: You need CD+G, which they mention is for a Karoke player or something else compatible
DJTweeny: Hey llan
llanwydd: so witch music are we hearing tonight
DJTweeny: I still have a USB floppy I use on occasion
DJTweeny: yes indeedie llan
||||||||| Bill Sprawl pokes his head in through the window and shouts "MARCHING TO SHIBBOLETH! Click to order!"
DJTweeny: suitable for a Halloween show
Deputy Dang: I don't know if I still have the floppy drive. I have a couple of IOmega Bernoulli drives. Not the Zip drives--the originals.
DJTweeny: I have a really old Mac portable that used Zip
llanwydd: let me guess -- tull-witches promise coming up?
DJTweeny: I've got an old Sony digital camera that's still servicable which used floppies for storage
DJTweeny: the last song of the set, llan :)
llanwydd: witch ones pink?
llanwydd: coool, tween. love that song
DJTweeny: good Floyd
Deputy Dang: My oldest computer is a Kaypro 2. It has two floppy drives with store 390K (not the measly 360k of PCs) each.
Deputy Dang: I haven't turned it on in probably over 20 years.
Deputy Dang: It probably still works fine, but who knows if the floppy discs have endured.
DJTweeny: Still have my Commodore SX-64 portable which I think uses 640k discs
DJTweeny: It'll boot because the C-64s booted from ROM, but the discs are all probably useless
Deputy Dang: I often wondered what would happen if Commodore had really taken off. AFAIK, they started with the PET, which was weirdly cool.
Deputy Dang: At some point, they bought Amiga, which was awesomely cool.
DJTweeny: Amiga was way ahead of its time, but badly marketed
DJTweeny: Tried to market it as a business machine to compete with the PC but its real strength was multimedia
Deputy Dang: yeah, agreed
Deputy Dang: I just googled for "weirdly cool". Google found the Firesign Theatre album, but their sidebar showed the wrong Peter Bergman.
Deputy Dang: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=weirdly+cool
DJTweeny: ehhh
||||||||| Catherwood tiptoes into the room, and pipes up "Announcing 'Cease', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 8:00 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the sitting room...
llanwydd: lol
DJTweeny: allo Cease
llanwydd: hi cease
Deputy Dang: And I think the wrong Phil Austin.
Deputy Dang: Howdy Cease!

Cease: My new collage is about Mars.
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 1 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
DJTweeny: Hey johan

Beet: Good evening all.
Cease: Hi Bet,Jam
Cease: are you opening a burger joint, jammy?
johan amadeus myjetski: hey beet, crease!
DJTweeny: following Fudd's Principle, johan?
Beet: Evening, Dr Tween, Dr Cease, J.A.M., Deputy, Llan.
johan amadeus myjetski: YES! it goes like anything!
johan amadeus myjetski: no, no burger joints. my burger joint would be more like a 'no coke - pepsi' kind of place
Deputy Dang: A joint the size of a burger? Sign me up!
johan amadeus myjetski: like the old glass onion, trying to make a dovetail joint, yeah

Deputy Dang: is/is named for
Beet: They built a pyramid there.
Rufus_T_Firetween: Memphis, Egypt the origin of blues music
Rufus_T_Firetween: Yeah, there's a pyramid at the MS River crossing :)

Deputy Dang: Is the "Firesign's NEW 24/7 RADIO STATION" link still correct?
Rufus_T_Firetween: nope, no more FST Radio :(
Rufus_T_Firetween: Bill McIntyre was running it and it's gone now
Rufus_T_Firetween: Is that link on my web FST web site, Dang?
Deputy Dang: Okay, no worries.
Deputy Dang: I'll ask again the next time I'm in Billville.
Rufus_T_Firetween: The new www.firesigntheatre.com site doesn't have it
Deputy Dang: It's about 7 lines above this one, in the chat.
Rufus_T_Firetween: Ah, didn't notice sorry
Rufus_T_Firetween: Merlyn was doing those ads. A lot of those links don't work and Doc Tech hasn't had time to fix them :/
Rufus_T_Firetween: It's really nice of Doc just to keep this chat going. I'll email him and ask him to delete all the automated ads. That should be easy.
Cease: Doc has been a busy man as long as I've known him. HIs talents are greatly in demand.
Cease: We should pair this with Down Under Danger and otheers from the Box, plus the Daily Feeds which are mostly Nick
Cease: We could have a whole Detective Month.
Beet: A very interesting album.

Rufus_T_Firetween: Do check out the new web site. A lot of the old albums aren't available yet, but I'm sure they're working on it.
Deputy Dang: I consider myself so lucky (privileged?) to know of Firesign Theatre. They were mostly before my time (I often wonder how my life would be if I were born 10 years earlier). The only friends I have who know of them are ones that I introduced them to. And of course, I'm equally lucky to have discovered this community and weekly gathering. I know I'm not always chatty; but, I really enjoy listening (and am usually listening, even if I'm not in the chat) and chatting.
Cease: good for you, dang.
Rufus_T_Firetween: I'm not from their generation either, but a friend in high school introduced me in 1972 and I've been a fan every since.
Cease: we aim to please, just like Louise
Rufus_T_Firetween: Glad we've been able to keep the weekly chat going, even if it's just a few die-hard fans :)
Deputy Dang: Er--I didn't say it, but that was intended as a thank you to you all. I really appreciate your presence and work, especially Cease and Tweeny.
Beet: I totally concur with this sentiment, Deputy. All of this is a rare privilege.
Rufus_T_Firetween: Glad to do it.
Cease: you're welcome, dang.
Cease: really. you're Welcome here. we do this for the few of you here now, and whoever hears the shows in the future.
Beet: Those two are definitely workers among us.
Cease: this is worker, speaking, speaking, speaking
Beet: And much gratitude from me too, guys.
Cease: much appreciatged
Beet: I've been to Mark's house in Hannibal, Missouri.
