DJTweeny: could be an issue, which is why we put off the Phil/David interview until after the election
DJTweeny: hope to have them both on Skype at once in a few weeks
||||||||| With a theatrical clearing of his throat, Catherwood intones: "8:52 PM and late as usual, it's Cease, just back from Hellmouth."

||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
DJTweeny: bye Techie
Cease: Not even 6 and we've already lost a chatter
llanwydd: how fatal is dengue fever in this chat room?

llanwydd: hey beet!
||||||||| Catherwood trudges in at 8:57 PM, dragging InTheWood by one leg and asks "Can anyone vouch for this bozo?"

Cease: Deputy
DJTweeny: Do you have an old word processor?
Beet: Hi Deputy!
Deputy Wang: You know it! Glad to know we're not forgotten!
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, October 22, 2020 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!"
Deputy Wang: I grew up in an age where there was a job title of "word processor operator". My mom had to take classes to get certified to do it.
InTheWood: Vertical screens.
Deputy Wang: I can't comment on my mom's expertise as a wang operator. It just doesn't seem right.
DJTweeny: Got one better, there's a great movie about early NASA when 'computer' was a job description
Deputy Wang: yeah, same idea. computers, word processors, black stuff coming out of the ground
Cease: Hidden Figures
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Deputy Dang close behind, mumbles something about disrupting his 9:02 PM tree-stunting plans, and rushes off to the Aviary.
Beet: Black stuff coming out of the ground? Civilization Ho!
||||||||| Nick Danger sneaks in and whispers "Get the scuttlebutt on Box of Danger here, whatever that means..."
Cease: A Wang and a Dang

Beet: Great Movie
DJTweeny: 'tis
DJTweeny: This is a very fun album
DJTweeny: lots of great little bits
Cease: That it is.
Deputy Dang: I don't recognize it. Cool.
Beet: Howdy Deputy
Deputy Dang: Hey Beets!
InTheWood: This went out on PB's podcast a few years ago. Nice segments.
Rufus_T_Firetween: ** Read about GIVE US A BREAK at >> http://www.firesigntheatrelegacy.com/media/media.php?item=wtcn-ln
DJTweeny: Great CD
DJTweeny: Another P&Bfest tonight
Beet: Good choice.
DJTweeny: It was just re-released on CD a few years ago
DJTweeny: oops, bad link...
DJTweeny: una momento
Deputy Dang: I bought some CDs recently, and then discovered my car audio no longer has a CD slot. :-(
Deputy Dang: And neither does my current laptop. My previous 2 do, so I'll have to hope they still boot up.
Rufus_T_Firetween: Try this one >> ** Read about GIVE US A BREAK at >> http://www.firesigntheatrelegacy.com/media/media.php?item=guab-ln
Deputy Dang: Anyone want to buy some "antique" Tom Lehrer albums?
Deputy Dang: on vinyl
DJTweeny: /me loves Lehrer
DJTweeny: but no active turntable here
InTheWood: I think Tom Lehrer just released all of his material as public domain.
DJTweeny: kewl
Deputy Dang: Well crap--there goes the resale value of my vinyl.
||||||||| Ralph Spoilsport drives in through the door and says "Buy a new or used T-shirt from the Firesign Theatre Cafepress store! Hurry before this sentence ends!"
InTheWood: https://www.marketplace.org/2020/10/21/satirist-tom-lehrer-put-his-songs-into-public-domain/
Deputy Dang: A friend of mine, from India, just discovered TL last week some time, and ranted at me for not educating him before.
Deputy Dang: I told him that I didn't think he (my friend) had a sense of humor.
DJTweeny: haha
llanwydd: tom lehrer is still alive?
Deputy Dang: yup, according to wikipedia, anyway
InTheWood: There will never be anything like his live recordings. Mostly I think this means we all can record our own versions.
InTheWood: yeah, hey...
Beet: Lehrer very funny
Deputy Dang: From the ones I've heard, other than the crowd's laughter and applause, his performance follows the recorded version. I'm often amazed, though, at how much emotion hearing the audience response adds to a recording.
Cease: The same when you're listening to a Firesign live album
Deputy Dang: true
Rufus_T_Firetween: Victor Borge is another musician/comedian who was really good with an audience
Deputy Dang: well, not quite--Firesign's performance isn't as much like the studio version as Tom Lehrer's are. But I haven't listened to TL in a while, so I could be wrong.
Deputy Dang: Now Borge I think the live versions are much better than the studio versions, which feel sterile.
Rufus_T_Firetween: Could be, I've only heard him live
Rufus_T_Firetween: absolutely wonderful
||||||||| The TV flickers on, and Ralph Spoilsport appears: "How can you drive in two places at once when you don't have a genuine Ralph Spoilsport license plate frame? Get one for your car and one for the plate in your head!"
Deputy Dang: Agreed
Cease: I think the first concert I ever saw was Borge
Rufus_T_Firetween: I can see how it might not work without an audience reaction
Rufus_T_Firetween: wow Cease
InTheWood: Honestly, Martian Space Party is the only live piece of the FT that I greatly prefer to their studio material.
Cease: The Portland show we listened to recently was excellent.
InTheWood: Nice! Is it available somewhere?
Deputy Dang: Portland
Beet: I think the first comedian I ever saw was a guy called Brother Dave Gardner.
Cease: It's called Radio Now and it's gonna be for sale somewhere.
Beet: Wasn't there already an album called Radio Now?
Rufus_T_Firetween: hahaha
Cease: https://www.amazon.com/Radio-Now-Live-Firesign-Theatre/dp/B00005MK4X
Rufus_T_Firetween: una momento Cease
Rufus_T_Firetween: Cease found it :)
Cease: That's the Portland concert we heard here not long ago
Rufus_T_Firetween: RadioNow Live! - https://firesigntheatrelegacy.com/media/media.php?item=rnl-ln
Rufus_T_Firetween: The best-recorded FST concert available, as far as I know
Rufus_T_Firetween: a must-have for your collection
Cease: yes, it's like being to a firesign concert
InTheWood: Well okay then! That's next on the list.

Cease: Proctor once told me this was his favourite creatiion as Proctor and Bergman
Deputy Dang: Did Phil Proctor do television commercials for one of the "big box" appliance stores? I remember seeing someone who looked like him, but I had no way of positively confirming whether it was him, or not.
Cease: It's quite possible. He's done a lot of commercials.
||||||||| Mayor P'nisnose strides up to the podium and speaks: "My fellow Armenians, if you have questions about exorcism, buy the new book "EXORCISM IN YOUR DAILY LIFE", now on sale. Incidentally, so is my vote."
Deputy Dang: Ok, good enough. It's the closest I've come to seeing him live. lol sadface
||||||||| A time machine materializes at 9:59 PM and johan amadeus majetski waltzes out, carrying a grape from ancient Greece.
Beet: Howdy JAM
Deputy Dang: Seen on a meme: If you don't pay your exorcist, do you get reposessed?
Rufus_T_Firetween: Beinvenu Johan
Cease: Jammy
Rufus_T_Firetween: heheh Deputy
