||||||||| Catherwood re-enters the Waiting Room and explains "This is the main discussion room which is logged each night."
||||||||| Catherwood announces, "The time is 4:33 AM - I now declare Thursday's chat log for December 06, 2012 officially open!"... and then, he retires back to the vestibule...
||||||||| "8:29 PM? 8:29 PM!!" says Catherwood, "DJTween should be here by now...oh, THERE you are!" as DJTween enters and sits in the comfy chair.
||||||||| New notice: 'There will be a Firesign Theatre/OssmanFest simulcast starting at 8pm CST this evening. Listen at http://listen.ehhh.us:8000/tweeny.m3u'
||||||||| Catherwood accompanies Thwenny in through the front door at 8:33 PM, picks up his cues (only slightly scorched), and heads for the billiard room.
||||||||| Catherwood escorts Merlyn into the room, accepts a wooden nickel as a gratuity, grumbles something about 8:58 PM, then departs.
Merlyn: doh! I forgot
DJTween: Hi Merlyn
Merlyn: hey
DJTween: I downloaded all the Mark Time and Barnstormer stuff :)
Merlyn: ok
Merlyn: fuse of doom is also downloadable, I forgot to assemble it
Merlyn: is the fidelity good enough?
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, December 06, 2012 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!"
DJTween: Sure, high quality Real files
DJTween: From the XM and FST pages
||||||||| New notice: 'currently playing - Rick Wakeman - listen at http://listen.ehhh.us:8000/tweeny.m3u'
DJTween: Did you send some stuff via mail?
Merlyn: no I forgot
DJTween: OK, no big
Merlyn: I'm old
DJTween: Have plenty of material
DJTween: Cat sent some poetry readings
DJTween: Aren't we all ;)
||||||||| Catherwood strides up and announces "Presenting 'cs', just granted probation at 9:02 PM", then leaves hurriedly.
Merlyn: hi cat
DJTween: Evenin' cease
cs: hi all
cs: you see ossman
cs: post to facebook just now?
DJTween: nope
Merlyn: nope
DJTween: I saw one earlier
cs: wonderfuly directing the attention he's getting to his son's projects
cs: go look
DJTween: kewl
DJTween: maybe later
Merlyn: cat, where? on the firesign page, or his page? I don't see anything at either from him
cs: facebook, merl
cs: i'm tapping into consciousness now
Merlyn: I KNOW facebook, but there's both a firesign page, and a david ossman page
Merlyn: and I don't see anything on either one
Thwenny: How Time Flys at Firesign Media - https://firesigntheatrelegacy.com/media/media.php?item=htf
Merlyn: that resembles what you've said
||||||||| New notice: 'currently playing - How Time Flys - listen at http://listen.ehhh.us:8000/tweeny.m3u'
Merlyn: CAAAAT!!!!!
Thwenny: lol
Thwenny: Got a URL, cease?
cs: i just found it on ossman's page but i read it on facebook a few minutes ago.
Thwenny: BTW - Dex said he wouldn't be able to make it his evening
cs: http://www.facebook.com/david.ossman.3
cs: too bad
DJTween: *this
DJTween: Got the poetry downloaded
cs: i wish htis were better known.
DJTween: It really is a fine album
cs: production quality, or maybe age of cassette not so good for the video but audio is fine
cs: did you check out his 75th birthday bash/poetry reading on youtube? 45 minutes of his latest poems, most he read on rfo
DJTween: No, didn't know about that one
cs: http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CC4QtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DmptOV192XMY&ei=lFHBUMWtDYeGiQKL2oHADA&usg=AFQjCNEvNV5PHkhqdvL8xuaQ_DvvHfyJeQ
DJTween: Cool that the log keeps a list of URLs that get posted. Nice feature, Merlyn
cs: volume know just fell of new speaker. not a good sign
DJTween: Technical problems?
DJTween: Output's fine here
cs: cheap computer speakers
DJTween: ah, OK
||||||||| Catherwood accompanies Pitts-Rheumy inside, makes a note of the time (9:20 PM), then fades off into the distance going on about the waiting room or the sitting room or something.
cs: cant complain. i didnt pay for them
cs: knob
DJTween: Hi Pitts
cs: hi pitts
Pitts-Rheumy: Howdy, folks
Pitts-Rheumy: Hey Tween, cat
Merlyn: hi
||||||||| New notice: 'Happy Birthday David Ossman - currently playing - How Time Flys - listen at http://listen.ehhh.us:8000/tweeny.m3u'
Pitts-Rheumy: Doing B-day wishes to the Big O?
cs: you should post it to facebook, tween
DJTween: yes indeed, an OssmanFest this evening :)
cs: yes, its an ossfest
Pitts-Rheumy: Slightly older than dirt?
DJTween: I did, cease
cs: do it now its on. facebook needs repetition
DJTween: I'm thinking maybe maybe FST will give me permission to post the chat announcements in their name?
cs: you'd have to get permission from them
DJTween: That would reach a whole lot more people than my small 'friend' collection
Merlyn: I think permission would be easy to get
cs: yes, but folks would show up expecting to see them here, and be very dissappointed that they're not
DJTween: I'll ask Proc
Merlyn: good point cat, announcements should be like "Tweeny here, next firesign chat blah blah"
DJTween: I could make it clear that they can talk to 'other fans'
cs: yes that should be clarified
DJTween: "Join other fans in the chat and listen to Firesign albums and rare unrealsed material." or something like that
DJTween: *unreleased
DJTween: Like I said, I'll email Proc and see what he thinks
Pitts-Rheumy: This sounds like a plan , , , , ?
cs: good plan
Pitts-Rheumy: Keep the heart and spirit in it.
DJTween: Sure would like to get a bunch of new people in here
cs: i was watching ossman's vid, An Autobiographical Evening from 1986, hopefully tweeny will be playing some of later
DJTween: I just happened to stumble across the chat a few years ago. I'm sure most fans have no idea we're doing this
cs: so many dope references in his poetry, and the great line about, i wish i had some company and some good dope in this one
DJTween: Yes, I have those
cs: how perfect is it for marijuana to be legalized on his birthday in washington
DJTween: Really? Takes effect today?
Pitts-Rheumy: Has to be something from the Dear Friends broadcast, Ossman's poetry ??
cs: since 1995
cs: no, a firesign friend, michael packer, recorded ossman in grand rapids in 1986. it was a show
Pitts-Rheumy: Or, a blessing from the Church of Science Friction, maybe?
cs: ossman played a bunch of clips from firesign clips, did some of his wrirting, than later read a bunch of his poems
cs: osman was living in boston then, i think he had just got together with judith
DJTween: I have some Barnstormer to play, Pitts :)
Pitts-Rheumy: 1976 Big Broadcast, with Phil Austin?
DJTween: The Barnstormer stuff is from XM and the FST site
Pitts-Rheumy: Anything you find, Tween, is fine with me
DJTween: Will be playing the Mark Time episodes from XM next
cs: i mentioned to my facebook friends that you'd be playing some of the poems
DJTween: kewl
cs: my favourite 2 poems are among them
cs: the best poem i ever heard was ossman's poem about the day of his birth
cs: 2nd best was a poem about bergman in turkey
Pitts-Rheumy: Surprised he never did anything about Mark Twain, with the resemblance being so close
cs: i think he did, not sure
Pitts-Rheumy: Seems like a natural, with the passion, independence and spirit
cs: have you seen micahel kupperman's graphic novel about twain?
Pitts-Rheumy: a few years ago, one man show about M. T., but not kupperman
cs: the funniest comic writer i know. his snake n'bacon is the funniest book i've ever read
cs: doc tech was visiting north van and we were doing a walking tour of its bookstores when he found this book.
cs: he had a tv show briefly but all i saw was the first episode on youtube
DJTween: Twain is a favorite
||||||||| Catherwood sneaks into the room, and announces "Announcing 'Principalpoop', also known as 'Nancy' -- the time is 9:43 PM" -- then he slowly retires back into the anteroom...
Pitts-Rheumy: Hey Poop
DJTween: Hey P
Principalpoop: hey all
cs: hi poop
cs: happy ossman's birthday
Merlyn: hi pp
Principalpoop: as twain said "my solution is perfect, anyone who disagrees is insane"
cs: snakenbacon's cartoon cabaret
Principalpoop: wauk wauk wauk and wohl
Thwenny: Mark Time XM Radio Broadcasts - https://firesigntheatrelegacy.com/xmradio/marktime.html
Principalpoop: tap tap, is this thing still on?
cs: you animated this, didnt you merl
Merlyn: yes
Merlyn: well, not there
Merlyn: these*
cs: i have a disc of it
Merlyn: I animated the pre-XM ones
Merlyn: I did titles for the XM shows tho
Merlyn: If I had a few free months, I could animate the XM ones too
cs: did you write this, merl?
Merlyn: not this one
cs: i thought that programming joke was you
Merlyn: if tweeny does them in order, it's the last 2 episodes on the time pirates
DJTween: Merlyn is a buddhist writer?
Merlyn: honorary buddhist writer
DJTween )
cs: i'm glad they were able to develop this as much as they did
Principalpoop: oh mah padme humper
DJTween: 6 episodes on XM
cs: buddha would be honoured, and/or amused
DJTween: hehe
Merlyn: proctor didn't know they were on
Principalpoop: did you know he was jewish? Sid Arthur...
cs: proctor was jewish? only his funny bone
Principalpoop: buddha
cs: in my play red shift, he's a martian microbe. ossman and proc did a great job as father and son
cs: merl's on it, among many chatters
Merlyn: playing a microbe is a tiny part
cs: actually austin, the dalai lama, had a pretty big part
DJTween: do they get scale?
Principalpoop: there are no small parts, only small prophets
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 10 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
DJTween: So Merlyn, why didn't you guys splice Part A and Part B together to one file? The noises they were making sure presented the opportunity
Merlyn: was it a different show?
Thwenny: https://firesigntheatrelegacy.com/xmradio/marktime.html
Merlyn: I don't recall why, there might have been a break in there
Thwenny: Could be, but they used the same noises at the end of the first and beginning of the second segments
Thwenny: It's two parts of the same story, pretty sure
Merlyn: or it could be I had to cut it into shorter segments for some old realaudio reason
Thwenny: I considered that as well
Principalpoop: i recall .rm, what were realplayer audio files called?
DJTween: .ram
cs: isnt the woman who started real audio the senator for washington?
DJTween: .ram is video also
DJTween: The Mark Time stuff is video. I'm playing it in VLC
DJTween: oops, actually not
DJTween: I tried VLC earlier but it wouldn't do the video codec
Principalpoop: ahh yes ram, don't confuse with RAM
DJTween: I installed RealPlayer this afternoon
cs: i'm listening to this on vlc
DJTween: VLC's a great program
Merlyn: T. McVeigh
Principalpoop: the bomber?
cs: did he creat vlc?
DJTween: I am using really old Macs, so old VLC. I'm sure the newest version could handle it
Principalpoop: Joe Maclaughlin did it
Principalpoop: the creator of mcafee is from the roanoke area, and so the local paper
Principalpoop: is covering him being on the run from the murder of his neighbor in belize...
DJTween: didn't he play guitar for the Mahavisnews?
Principalpoop: yes and no, there is more than one
cs: great guitar player
cs: i saw his with jean-luc ponty in vancouver in mid 70s
cs: i had no idea instruments could be played that fast, and that well
Principalpoop: wow
DJTween: Yes, an amazing talent
cs: they must have REALLY STRONG fingers
DJTween: Stanley Clarke falls into that category as well
cs: yes ive seen him a couple times
DJTween: I played a Return To Forever set on my radio show last Sunday - http://kurtericson.com/txroadkill/roadkillshow/
cs: great band
DJTween: One of my favorite American
cs: i was a chick corea fan from his first album, sometimes he sings, sometimes not or whatever it was called
cs: piano one of my fave instruments. used to play, long ago
cs: fumiyo plays guitar and has kept it up, just played at a party today
Principalpoop: i got lost at chopsticks
Thwenny: getting any stuttering?
DJTween: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick_Corea
cs: that would cause you problems in japan, poop
Principalpoop: i am not listening, sinus giving me an earache. sorry
DJTween: maxed out the proc for a bit there
Principalpoop: what do they do about soup?
cs: it you can't drink it, it shouldnt be in soup
cs: they loved saying fuck on air, particularly bergman
Principalpoop: colbert got a fuck in the other night, some name, joe fuqueman lol
cs: autoBOZOgraphical evening, tween
Principalpoop: they bleeped the subsequent times
cs: yes i heard that. great
DJTween: I have Utopia Or Oblivion, as well as I Seem To Be A Verb
DJTween: This like Echo Poem
Principalpoop: i call your utopia or oblivion and raise you one nirvana and one vahalla
cs: the other version i have of this is other people, kids in partic doing these
DJTween: Hope you feel better soon, P
Principalpoop: a hot shower did not work, I may take medicine soon, thanks
cs: BOZOgraphical, tween, pay attention
Principalpoop: in fact I will, brb
DJTween: Yes, please to excuse misread
cs: this is as good as words get
DJTween: Gonna be a long night, but some great material :)
cs: this really gets into ossman's head, where he's coming from
cs: i think in his obit, he would want to be known as david ossman, poet, also firesign theatre guy
||||||||| New notice: 'Happy Birthday David Ossman - currently playing - OssmanFest - listen at http://listen.ehhh.us:8000/tweeny.m3u'
DJTween: I have his Dr. Firesign book
DJTween: an extremely literate fellow, in the best sense
DJTween: he knows how to use words
DJTween: I'll bet he loves the Elizabethan acting side of their plays
DJTween: 1986, interesting
DJTween: about the time of EoBE, the old album he wasn't involved in
DJTween: *the only
DJTween: Guess he was on a different path for a while
cs: not only
DJTween: Oh?
cs: he wasnt on 3 faces of al
DJTween: Was that released?
cs: was he?
DJTween: Is Lawyer's Hospital included in Duke?
cs: this gives you some background for the shadow moves piece tween played a coujple of weeks ago
cs: they were very much into the "indians", kind of bonded through that on kpfk radio shows
Merlyn: no, ossman wasn't on 3 faces
DJTween: I like their respect for 'native americans'
cs: yes i just consulted my copy
cs: only as a character originator, not actor
Pitts-Rheumy: Fading quickly, if it ain't obvious, take care all . . .
||||||||| At 10:50 PM, Pitts-Rheumy rushes out the door saying "Hey, mister ice-cream man, I've got a nickel, wait for meeeee..."
cs: by pitts
cs: that was exquisite
DJTween: really good, yeah
cs: his voice and his words go together as well as any musician
cs: more people should be here to hear this stuff
Thwenny: WELCOME to the First Reformed Church of Science Fiction. - http://www.firesigntheatrelegacy.com/bvhtml/church/index.html
Principalpoop: ciao pitts
cs: i thinkossie had a lot of fun with this character
DJTween: I'm sure
Merlyn: "There's a Methodist lab in the kitchen"
DJTween: lol
Merlyn: I think that's from Bride of Firesign
Merlyn: so I put a version of it in a Barnstormer bit
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
DJTween: Don't remember that from Bride
Merlyn: I think it's Bergman when he's going after Rocky R
cs: great line, pre breaking bad
DJTween: Gingrich The Newt is a very fun song from the Austin Lounge Lizards
cs: newt oil is austin
cs: phil
DJTween: President Bush Light lol
cs: kind of like obama
DJTween: lol David
DJTween: Don't get me started
cs: i think he will, tween. he likes the character and isnt dependent on bergman for it to succeed
DJTween: Would be very cool :)
cs: yes that was their goal. great to hear he say it here so expliciitly.
cs: get our brains operating on more than one level at once
cs: they guys will keep creating stuff till they die, like bergman did
DJTween: I surely hope so
cs: when elayne and i went to visit ossman in 96, he told us he'd never retire
cs: only death will retire the rest of the fireguys.
DJTween: "Ah, retirement, what a sweet word..."
cs: isnt that true for every creative person?
cs: i think dave brubeck was thinking of a new song when he died
cs: hash smoking in the park in seattle today
cs: firesign predicted it.
DJTween: kewl
DJTween: and yes, art isn't a job, it's a passion
cs: colorado too. ex chatter dave bahr can partake legally, if he so desires
cs: well i dont know. i think of art as being something i do as much as appreciate but dont think that's a common belief
Principalpoop: 123 4 5 123 4 5 123 4 5
DJTween: Frankly, I would have expected California before Colorado
cs: in the "indian" tribe he mentions earlier, that was not the case. everyone was equally supposed to be artistic, out of necessity
cs: if it happens in cal, its all over for prohibtion
DJTween: probably
cs: the anti monsanto bill was 90% in favour of labeling gmo food until ads by monsanto et all poured in and the bill lost
DJTween: with the exception of Aspen (like Austin TX), my impression of CO is a fairly conservative state
cs: that could happen in cal with a vengeance if there was a thought of a legal dope bill actually happening
DJTween: If WA and CO state government starting making money from legalization, it could catch on
DJTween: *governments
cs: maybe
DJTween: The States are having huge budget problems
DJTween: and MJ is seen by many as on par with alcohol
DJTween: if not a better choice
DJTween: but Austin is an island in Texas
cs: if mexicans become a majority, will it change?
DJTween: Would be hard to convince Dallas, the largest publisher of conservative Christian materials in the world, to legalize MJ
DJTween: CA and TX are majority Hispanic
Principalpoop: i thought the 700 club guy called for decriminialization...
DJTween: Pat Robertson??
DJTween: That would be a YouTube video I'd watch
Principalpoop: i guess so
Principalpoop: let me google
cs: i saw a guy on the news tonight, drivng around florida nursing homes, preaching legal dope there. if the seniors want it there, it would happen for sure
cs: ok this is my favourite poem. ossman's birth tale
Principalpoop: http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2012/03/08/pat_robertson_marijuana_700_club_hosts_calls_for_government_to_legalize_pot.html
Principalpoop: stewart had him last night
DJTween: Pretty amazing
Principalpoop: astounded me too
Principalpoop: reduces pains, for many conditions and few if any side effects, unlike pills...
cs: robertson was on stewart last night? i thought it was senator simpson
Principalpoop: the senior pot guy in floriida
Principalpoop: maybe the night before, with madrigal
cs: thats the best thing ever done by anybody
cs: by tween, thanks for the show
Principalpoop: the voice of tween ,you have a great week too, thanks
Merlyn: thanks tweeny
Principalpoop: yes happy bday ossman
DJTween: bbbbbb that's all folks :-)
DJTween: Until last time, again...
||||||||| "11:37 PM? I'm late!" exclaims DJTween, who then hurries out through the french doors and down through the bushes.
Principalpoop: what pat robertsons says does not cut any cheese with me anyway hehe
cs: isnt he the one who said homosexuality caused katrina?
Merlyn: cya all
||||||||| At 11:39 PM, Merlyn vanishes mysteriously -- just as Nino the Mind Boggler predicted!
Principalpoop: yes, or some hurricaine
cs: hope you enjoyed ossman poems. he sure enjoyed writing them
Principalpoop: poetry is difficult
Principalpoop: half of me just wants to experience it and the other half wants to analyze it
Principalpoop: same a firesign
cs: see you here next week
Principalpoop: have a super week, ciaooo
||||||||| At 11:41 PM, Principalpoop dashes out the door saying "Hey, mister ice-cream man, I've got a nickel, wait for meeeee..."
||||||||| cs leaves at 11:41 PM, singing "Oh, I'm just a little fishy, floating in the sea, and there ain't no hook that's smart enough to catch the likes of me..."
||||||||| "11:46 PM? I'm late!" exclaims Thwenny, who then scurries out through the french doors and down through the brambles.
||||||||| Catherwood enters, and announces to all and sundry "It's 4:32 AM, time to change the log file and clean out unused rooms; please exit the chat room for a minute or two. Thank you for your patience."
