||||||||| New CNI streaming notice: 'no few minutes" tonight, see ya next week'
||||||||| New CNI streaming notice: 'no "few minutes" tonight, see ya next week'
||||||||| At 7:35 PM, ah,clem dashes out the door saying "Hey, mister ice-cream man, I've got a nickel, wait for meeeee..."
||||||||| 8:43 PM: Dexter Fong (Ret) jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past half hour!"
||||||||| With a theatrical clearing of his throat, Catherwood announces: "8:55 PM and late as usual, it's Merlyn, just back from Minnesota."
||||||||| Catherwood strides in with a trumpet, plays a fanfare, and proclaims "Nine PM on Thursday, January 20, 2011 - I now declare alt.comedy.firesgn-thtre's chat officially open!"
Dexter Fong (Ret): Hey Merlyn
Merlyn: yay, we're open
Merlyn: hey dex
Merlyn: got your Duke of Madness?
Dexter Fong (Ret): You betcha =)
Merlyn: me 2
Dexter Fong (Ret): Got it yesterday
Dexter Fong (Ret): I think Taylor did a really nice job on the booklet
||||||||| cease enters at 9:03 PM as Catherwood takes their hat and goat and rushes off to the Haberdashery Barn.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Hey Cat
cease: no duke for me.
Merlyn: yeah, really güte
cease: maybe they dont come up into the hills
Merlyn: Y not cat?
Merlyn: you're Canadian
cease: fucked if i know. sent em the $ as soon as it was announced.
Merlyn: shouldn't affect you, but now Canada is international
Dexter Fong (Ret): Did you try to pay with loonys
cease: i trust its in the mail.
Merlyn: yeah, takes longer to get there
cease: i keep seeing people babbling about getting it on facebook. makes me jealous
cease: i wasnt charged the international postage premium, at least
Merlyn: they changed it cat
Merlyn: because canadian postage was like $12
Merlyn: but it's not retroactive
cease: i certainly hope not. i asked doc about it and he changed the price on the site the day it went up
cease: hey dex, have you gotten into the dear friends tracks yet? have you found the show you played for me?
Merlyn: did you furnish any of the audio?
cease: me?
cease: i sent taylor my magic mushroom shows and the 8 hollywood nightshifts i got from packer long ago. i forgot to ask phil last week if he got them. taylor told me he didnt know
Dexter Fong (Ret): Cat: I haven't lietened yet but the shows are all numbered, dated, stacked, with a YOC..so the show I played for you was "Happy Harry's Confesional Booth"
Dexter Fong (Ret): TOC Table of Contents
||||||||| Catherwood ushers llanwydd inside, makes a note of the time (9:12 PM), then fades off into the distance going on about the waiting room or the sitting room or something.
llanwydd: good evening
Dexter Fong (Ret): hey llan
cease: hopefully i'll hear them soon enough
cease: hi llan
cease: have you ordered your duke of madness yet, llan?
llanwydd: no, I haven't
llanwydd: where is it available?
Dexter Fong (Ret): llan: It's only playable on DVD
Merlyn: http://www.firesigntheatrelegacy.com/domm/index.html
cease: you can order it. merl will tell you how
llanwydd: thanks
Merlyn: you can burn your own CDs if you want though
cease: i dont understand, dex. you mean i cant play it on my computer?
Dexter Fong (Ret): Cat: If you computer has a DVD player, yes.
llanwydd: the one night I can get CNI and it's not on
Dexter Fong (Ret): you can play it
cease: of course, dex
Merlyn: otherwise it would be about 10 CDs and cost $400
cease: i'm NOT the one hear without a dvd player
cease: hey merl, do you know if box of danger has broke even yet?
Merlyn: you can't hear a DVD player?
cease: when we were in langley last year and i was helping judith with the merch, she told me it hadnt paid for itself yet
Merlyn: dunno cat
cease: whereas this new project apparently has, according to austin last week
cease: ossman hasnt answered my last email to him. i'll ask him when he does
llanwydd: well, folks, I'm joining you from Florida tonight
Merlyn: DOMM has already passed breakeven, which I think was 200
||||||||| With a theatrical clearing of his throat, Catherwood pipes up: "9:17 PM and late as usual, it's Tor Hershman, just back from San Francisco."
cease: hows florida? likely warmer than where you were before
cease: hi tor
Dexter Fong (Ret): Hi Tor
llanwydd: hi Tor
Tor Hershman: Howdy do, Ce, Dex, Ll & Merl
llanwydd: yeah, it's a welcome change
Tor Hershman: Darwin HELP ME! I do like WipeOut
Merlyn: hey tor
cease: 3 weeks from now, while you're chatting i'll be dining beneath a bevy of picassos in vegas
Dexter Fong (Ret): Tor: Louie's Wipeout Pumice Hamburgers?
Tor Hershman: Hey, I just stopped by so everyone could have a look/see @ Mae West singin' "Criswell Predicts" & here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwc65bf99_o
llanwydd: going to vegas, cat?
Tor Hershman: Nite all fellow Bozos
cease: yes, 2nd week in feb
cease: like you, escaping the cold
Merlyn: nite tor
Dexter Fong (Ret): Maybe
llanwydd: bevy of picassos sounds interesting
cease: come by when you have something to say besides plug, tor
Dexter Fong (Ret): Night Tor
llanwydd: well, I'm not just escaping the cold. I've moved down here for a few months
cease: moved?
Dexter Fong (Ret): Cat: Second week in Feb, I'll be in Key West
llanwydd: got some work going on in orlando for a while
cease: where it will be MUCH warmer than vegas. vegas at night is colder than van
cease: good for you, llan
Dexter Fong (Ret): Very nice llan
llanwydd: well, stop by new smyrna beach and say hi dex
llanwydd: its on your way to the keys
Dexter Fong (Ret): Llan, key west is several hundred miles from new smyna
cease: ive always loved key limes
Dexter Fong (Ret): Prolly the key to your success Cat
llanwydd: well, that's true. I assume you were driving down like I did but that really wouldn't be practical unless you're staying awhile
Dexter Fong (Ret): llan: FLying into Lauderdale then driving down
llanwydd: that's why I wasnt here last week. I was somewhere on I-95
Dexter Fong (Ret): If you had GPS, we could locate you
llanwydd: I was probably in NC while you were chatting
cease: it would be if i were a limey, dex
llanwydd: didn't have time to stop by bambi and clem's
llanwydd: or princ's
Dexter Fong (Ret): A limey? Blimey!
cease: i'd love to meet them but doubt i'll be in their vicinity in this lifetime
Dexter Fong (Ret): In the Next World.....
llanwydd: how many next worlds are there anyway
cease: if my next life is as bad as that album, i'll pass
Dexter Fong (Ret): Depends on how many dimensions there are
llanwydd: lol
llanwydd: I happen to like that album
llanwydd: but I probably like the album cover even more
Dexter Fong (Ret): Me two
cease: many people do. not me
cease: i hadnt realized that the lads could do something REALLY BAD until i heard it
Dexter Fong (Ret): But think Cat: If your next life was like that album, it would be composed of mainly the best parts of your previous life
llanwydd: you've got to be kidding
cease: best?
cease: that would be like my best case of AIDS.
Dexter Fong (Ret): I assume you have some?
llanwydd: bad by comparison with some of their greatest but that is a clever album
cease: i thought the soap opera, albeit not their first, was astonishingly tedious, and the movie scene, well i had NO Idea they could be that boring
llanwydd: Cat, how would you compare Next World to Eat or Be Eaten?
||||||||| It's 9:30 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Tor Hershman - dead from The Plague
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
cease: i'm fond of eobe
Dexter Fong (Ret): Setting aside the non foursome albums, I'd say "Not Insane" was their least successfl effort
cease: thin on plot, but very funny. dylan does opera? classic
llanwydd: I like them both but I prefer all four of the group
cease: shitty but not fatal, dex. insane=death
cease: no, i meant next world=death. not reincarnation
llanwydd: even Not Insane was a kind of mind-bending album
cease: on the other hand, people we all know well have been ejected from firesignland for disliking anything by them, so maybe i should cease and desist
Dexter Fong (Ret): It as a contractual obligation and shows every sign of that
Merlyn: what cat?
cease: what what?
llanwydd: what what what
Merlyn: ejected from firesignland?
cease: you know who i mean, merl.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Was Catherwood involved?
||||||||| Catherwood snubs Dexter Fong (Ret)
Merlyn: fred? That wasn't for disliking FT
cease: there is always some kinda wood involved
Dexter Fong (Ret): C'mmon Cat..smel er uh spell it out
llanwydd: you just got snubbed, dex. you could sue
Dexter Fong (Ret): C'wood's all lawyered up
llanwydd: yes I've got cather panelling in my living room
cease: fred can defend himself. i was thinking of earlier folks
Merlyn: don't know who you mean then
Dexter Fong (Ret): Were any of the Armenian?
cease: good
Dexter Fong (Ret): Pursuasion?
llanwydd: you would have laughed at the way I had to travel down here
Dexter Fong (Ret): You pushed your car?
||||||||| Gusts of wind blow in from outside and the thumpa-thumpa-thumpa of helicopter blades is heard as Happy Panditt's chopper lands on the lawn and Bunnyboy disembarks at 9:38 PM.
cease: you rode a unicylce?
llanwydd: I managed to get all my worldy possessions into my ford escort and driving wasn't easy
Bunnyboy: (sobs) Doooooooook!
cease: hi bun
llanwydd: hi bunnyboy
Dexter Fong (Ret): Hey Bunny
Dexter Fong (Ret): Llan: Have you vacated your aprtment?
llanwydd: well, I did leave some larger items to be picked up later this year
Dexter Fong (Ret): Considering a permanent FLa residency?
llanwydd: yeah, dex. like I said. I'm down here for awhile
Bunnyboy seethes with unbridled jealousy.
Bunnyboy: Dex-TER!
llanwydd: actually, no, dex, not permanent
Dexter Fong (Ret): Yes Bunny, you summoned?
Bunnyboy: Is that a DUKE OF MADNESS MOTORS you have your feet propped upon?
cease: hey bun, van's best vid rental store has a safe place so i'll finally see it
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Elayne-is-sick close behind, mumbles something about disrupting his 9:41 PM tree-stunting plans, and dashes off to the sitting room.
cease: get well soon, el
Dexter Fong (Ret): (gulp) Yes sir
Elayne-is-sick: *sniffle* Evenin' all.
llanwydd: no, I don't keep motors in my house
Elayne-is-sick: Tx, Cat.
llanwydd: hi, elayne
Bunnyboy: cat: What vid?
cease: under the weather, el?
Elayne-is-sick: The cough and sore throat is the worst of it, although I'm not thrilled about the stomach ailment.
Bunnyboy: Hiya, El!
Dexter Fong (Ret): Hey Elayne
llanwydd: I always take advil for a cold
cease: a safe place, bun, you bought it.. i'll rent it
Bunnyboy: I wants my Doooooook!
llanwydd: I nearly spelled it clod. lol
Bunnyboy: Ah. Jolly good.
llanwydd: uh, what is a Doooooooook?
cease: you dont have to be one to spell one, llan
Elayne-is-sick: Not on any meds, llan, just sucking on throat lozenges and trying to guzzle water despite the throat pain.
llanwydd: lol, cat
Bunnyboy: That's what I get for pre-pre-ordering, through midheaven.com. Grrrumble.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Duke of Madness Motors containing the complete HourHour, Dear Friends, and Let's Eat shows
Bunnyboy: DOOOOOK of Madness Motors.
llanwydd: do you gargle salt water? that helps throat pain for some
Elayne-is-sick: I hate gargling, Llan. I'd rather live with the pain.
Bunnyboy: Instant gratification takes too long.
Bunnyboy: (lifted from POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE)
Elayne-is-sick is being amused this evening by watching Robin play Angry Birds.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Which one is he, Elayne, the big Cock a too?
llanwydd: angry birds? not familiar
cease: is that a game?
Bunnyboy: I probably won't get my Dooook fix until roundabout the original street date (Feb 15)...if I'm lucky.
Elayne-is-sick: Oh dear, Llan, you really aren't plugged into the cultural zeitgeist of the moment...
Dexter Fong (Ret): He's teasing the pigeons
Dexter Fong (Ret): Throwing out fake bread crumbs
Elayne-is-sick: Please go to the Google.
llanwydd: I guess, I'm not
cease: the amount of stuff on duke that i dont have is rather small, but i bought it anyway
Elayne-is-sick: Only 50 million people are playing it.
Bunnyboy: Merlyn, you ain't got any idea if the 3rd party distributors got any of the early DUKE product?
cease: same with box of danger, where i actually had more nick stuff than is on it
Bunnyboy: cat: But there's the purty book, too! Ooooooh...
cease: it lacks, for example, box of danger. and the case of the missing yolks.
cease: yes bun, i gets what i pays for.
Bunnyboy: El: Didja hear ANGRY BIRDS is making the leap to animated series?
Merlyn: I doubt it BB
Elayne-is-sick: I have, Bunnyboy. Way to ruin a cute thing, I says.
Merlyn: we got the first shipment last Friday or something
cease: i wonder what bergman meant when he said he was going back in to tv?
Bunnyboy snaps his fingers, slaps his forehead, shakes his fist, impotently.
cease: an impotent fist isnt necessarily a bad thing
Bunnyboy: cat: You mean DOWN UNDER DANGER, as opposed to BOX OF DANGER?
llanwydd: I wonder what the angriest bird is. I would guess the crow
Dexter Fong (Ret): afkfr
cease: yep
cease: i think llan now has a copy
llanwydd: let catherwood get your refill, dex
||||||||| Catherwood gets his refill dex.
Elayne-is-sick: Vultures are pretty mean, I should think.
Bunnyboy: I guess I should have waited a week or two to pre-order. Poo.
llanwydd: yeah, thanks very much for that cd, cat
llanwydd: I did send an email to your website to your seemreal website to say thanks
Bunnyboy: I coulda been slurpin' gravy, instead of suckin' air!
llanwydd: pardon my redundancy department
Dexter Fong (Ret): bak
Bunnyboy: OK, I'm done crabbin' for awhile.
Bunnyboy: RFO needs an angel!
llanwydd: crabbin'? you in maryland?
Dexter Fong (Ret): How's that Bunny
Elayne-is-sick is fading fast...
Bunnyboy: Go to bed, Elayne! Get well!
Elayne-is-sick: Tx
Elayne-is-sick: Bye
||||||||| At 9:56 PM, Elayne-is-sick rushes out the door saying "Hey, mister ice-cream man, I've got a nickel, wait for meeeee..."
cease: yes i got that llan. i'm glad you like it. i wish more people knew of it
Dexter Fong (Ret): Bye Elayne
llanwydd: drink plenty of fluids and take acerola
cease: by el. get well
Bunnyboy: Push the green button at:
Bunnyboy: http://www.radiofreeoz.com/
cease: ah, fluids
cease: i sent rfo some funds, even if they soon dissappear. it was worth it to hear ossman read those tang poems
Merlyn: well, I'm going to do some programming, see you next week
Bunnyboy: cat: Do you have the book of translations Mr. O was reading?
llanwydd: nite merl
Bunnyboy: nite Merlyn
Dexter Fong (Ret): Nite Merlyn and thanks for the hosting
Bunnyboy: !
cease: by merl
||||||||| "10:00 PM? I'm late!" exclaims Merlyn, who then dashes out through the french doors and down through the brambles.
cease: no bun
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 10 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
llanwydd: I've got to be going as well. definitely be here longer next week
llanwydd: have a great week, everybody
Dexter Fong (Ret): Stay cool, llan
Bunnyboy: MIght have to dig it up. Them Tangers are tasty!
Bunnyboy: nite llan!
cease: enjoy fla, llan
Bunnyboy: Moving to FL?
cease: he has just done so
Dexter Fong (Ret): Dunno for sure Bunny, but llan's there for a while..got some work
Bunnyboy: Wow! Acting work?
Dexter Fong (Ret): I assume so, he didn't specify
Bunnyboy: BURN NOTICE? DEXTER?!?
cease: i dont think llan pretends to work.
Bunnyboy: (sings) A dream is a wish your heart makes...
Bunnyboy: One of my old college mates has made a living in the Disney and Universal Theme Parks, for several years.
Dexter Fong (Ret): LLan *did* say he had a job in Orlando
Bunnyboy: Hmmmmmm....
Bunnyboy: There are worse things than being a Who in Whoville.
cease: unless you're pete townsend
Dexter Fong (Ret): I recently saw an Ice Show (carved ice statues all lit up from within or behind) of all Dr. Seuss characters, scenes, and situations
cease: oh, its the ice show
Dexter Fong (Ret): Carved by chinese artists from that farthest north city in china famous for their ice carvings
cease: harbin
Bunnyboy: I'd rather see Ice Seuss than Stinks-On-Ice Seuss (e.g. Carrey, Myers, etc.)
Dexter Fong (Ret): Yes, thanks cat =))
Bunnyboy: The CGI HORTON was pretty cool.
Dexter Fong (Ret): I knew it was something like Irving or Mirkin or whatever
Bunnyboy: Even with Jim Carrey.
Bunnyboy: So, does the DUKE set glow in the dark, Dex?
Bunnyboy: And does it make toast?
Dexter Fong (Ret): It does now Bunny
Dexter Fong (Ret): Bagels
||||||||| It's 10:10 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| llanwydd - dead from jaundice
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
Bunnyboy: Ooooh!
Dexter Fong (Ret): The booklet is really nice, taylor did an excellent job
cease: taylor is a skilled young man
cease: maybe he should make suits
Dexter Fong (Ret): And flush them>
Bunnyboy: I've always been the guy who waits for the Little Orphan Annie ring, in the mail.
cease: diamonds arent forever
Bunnyboy: This brings it all back.
cease: is that like a bathtub ring?
Dexter Fong (Ret): Bunny: Don't forget...you'll need your decoder to read that booklet
Bunnyboy: I guess it gives me time to clear almost 8 gigs from my iPhone, in preparation.
Bunnyboy: Just 1 DVD, or 2?
Dexter Fong (Ret): One DVD
Dexter Fong (Ret): 6.2 gbits i think
Bunnyboy: The ring is the decoder! Nice try!
Bunnyboy: And all MP3s? No ZIPS, Beaners or Berserkers?
Dexter Fong (Ret): The decoder is in the one with the secret hidden uranium compartment
cease: so thats where saddam hid his wmds
Dexter Fong (Ret): Bunny,,,I'm not sure that they're MP3 encoded, it wouldn't play in myCD player that does do MP3s and other encodements
cease: i see your stange liebercreature is stilll claiming there were wmds in iraq
cease: strange
cease: doc and lili's "senator"
Dexter Fong (Ret): He's not running for another term
cease: good for you
Dexter Fong (Ret): And what's good for me is good for America
cease: whats good for general bullmoose, is good for the usa
cease: al cap
Dexter Fong (Ret): al cap...is that some kinda Ayrab name?
cease: the cap. bettter than the lower case
Bunnyboy: "We had Al Capp here last week! What a witty guy!" - Albert Brooks
cease: al is the only word of arabic i know
cease: means The
cease: i saw capp in a flick about lennon. he made an ass of himself in lennon's hotel room
Dexter Fong (Ret): Al Capp was not a very nice man
cease: the bullmoose quote is from the musical lil abner, as i recall
cease: i find it amazing how many formerly liberal americans became right wingnuts in their old age
Bunnyboy: Is true.
cease: doesnt seem to happen in canada or other civilized countries
cease: ronnie reagan and charleton heston come to mind. they used to be left wing
Bunnyboy: Bunnette played "Bullsie's Consort", in L'IL ABNER, years ago, before I met her.
cease: wow
cease: youre both old actors
Bunnyboy: "But, Bullsie! What if I kuh-rap everything up?"
Dexter Fong (Ret): Do you know Walter Brennan Bun?
Bunnyboy: "Then it's back to the Howard Johnson's, baby!"
Bunnyboy: "Oooh!"
cease: is that like a hamburger bun?
Bunnyboy: Do I know Walter Brennan?!?
Bunnyboy: Yyyesss!
Dexter Fong (Ret): or a hotdog!!! bun
Bunnyboy: 2 time Oscar winner.
Bunnyboy: Or was it 3?
Bunnyboy: Hmmm...
cease: what was that tv show he was on, i vaguely remember from 50s
Dexter Fong (Ret): I mean did you hang out with him
cease: dex, you would remember.
Dexter Fong (Ret): I would?
Dexter Fong (Ret): Remeber what?
cease: brennans tv show in the 50s. was quite popular but i forget its name
Bunnyboy: 3 times. 1936, 1938 and 1940. Nominated a 4th time, in 1942.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Ma and pa Kettle?
cease: maybe richard crenna was in it?
cease: brennan played an old guy. all i remember.
Bunnyboy: THE REAL MCCOYS?
cease: thats it!
Bunnyboy: With Crenna, yup.
cease: i remember it was in black and white. but so was everything else
cease: at the end of his life, my father reminded me of brennan in that show
Bunnyboy: Universal included the TV-Movie version of DOUBLE INDEMNITY on their DI release, a couple of years back. Crenna and the recently-departed Susannah York played the bad couple.
cease: physcially anyway
Bunnyboy: With Lee J. Cobb in the Eddie G. role.
Bunnyboy: Adapted by Stephen Bochco. Pretty lifeless, but Crenna was OK.
cease: i remember creanna from another series from about that era. i forget what it was
cease: didnt he play a legislator or something?
cease: a congressman or something? anyone remember?
Bunnyboy: OUR MISS BROOKS?
cease: no.
Bunnyboy: He played a congressman in the 70s.
Dexter Fong (Ret): jjBringing up Pnch and Judy?
Dexter Fong (Ret): Walter shoulds played that 70 year old congreddman
cease: Slattery's People. i just looked it up on imb
Bunnyboy: ALL'S FAIR
cease: it was pretty good as i recall. mid 60s
Dexter Fong (Ret): Winds light to variable
cease: speaking of that era, remember a tv show about american history from then?
cease: dramatized history. forget what it was called but it was really good
Dexter Fong (Ret): It wasn't history then, it was just what was happening
cease: no, it was about mostly 19th century us history. i remember one episode about thoreau and emerson, about when thoreau went to jail to protest mexican war
Bunnyboy: YOU ARE THERE?
Bunnyboy: Any actors come to mind?
Dexter Fong (Ret): dward R Murrow?
cease: very famous (for literate americans) rif, emerson goes to see thoreau in jail and says, what are you doing in there? thoreau answers, what are you doing out there?
cease: maybe The Great Adventure?
cease: it was very good.
cease: i remember watching it before i went on a tour of the east coast in 64
cease: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Adventure_%28TV_series%29
cease: it had a dramatic and aesthetic relationship to the twilight zone.
Bunnyboy: Hey, here's a fun-looking site:
Bunnyboy: http://www.tvobscurities.com/
cease: it should be released on dvd.
cease: as a child growing up in the us, i was stunned how ignorant most us adults were on their history and world history, georgrpahy. i expected it in kids my age, but not adults
Dexter Fong (Ret): IY PAYS TO BE IGNORANT
cease: i wonder how many firefans know enough us history to get the firesign humour about such
Dexter Fong (Ret): IT
cease: in your country, that
cease: that's certainly true.
Dexter Fong (Ret): I know *my* forefathers smoked dope
Bunnyboy: I know IGNORANT was a TV show, but my (brief) exposure was the Old Time Radio show.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Precicely Bunnie
cease: didnt everybody's, dex?
Dexter Fong (Ret): I didn't know your forefathers did Cat
Bunnyboy: But that's a great deal of the Firesign fun...finding the references, over time.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Sometimes a veeerry long time =)
cease: indeed, bun. i think they planned it that way.
cease: to keep their albums eternally new, like music
Dexter Fong (Ret): Right "Here's one they won't get till 1998"
Bunnyboy: The "lock" for me was when, after I'd nearly worn the grooves out of HOW CAN YOU BE...I happened upon a book of literary essays.
Dexter Fong (Ret): In the record?
cease: bun is right, dex is wrong
Dexter Fong (Ret): Or on the record
Bunnyboy: I was just browsing the book...when Spoilsport's rap started leaping off the page!
cease: they hid tons of esoteric shit figuring people who listened to their albums long enough would eventulaly encounter the source material for the jokes
Bunnyboy: It was, of course, Molly Bloom's tag from James Joyce's ULYSSES.
cease: hi friends
Bunnyboy: After that, I was hooked for life...on Joyce and Firesign!
cease: you never read ulysses bun?
cease: imagine if ulysees had lost that court case and it was still illegal in the us to write the word Fuck
Bunnyboy: About 15 years ago. Loved it!
cease: i read in in 67 bun, so was all set for firesign
Dexter Fong (Ret): I can;t pin down the many shocks of recognition but the final one was hearing Bergman I think say something like "that;s power , and power is *everybodys* business and realising they were dead serious
Bunnyboy: But my first reading of that passage, outside of Firesign, was around 1976.
cease: there would have been no firesign, no lenny, no carlin, no southpark, etc etc.
cease: you would still be living in leave it to beaver land, only beaver would be wearing an ipad now
cease: dex, we talked about that in the q&a they did in langley last jan.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Beaver?
cease: i asked about an austin quote and he went into an elaborate riff on the firessigns dedicated antipathy to power
Dexter Fong (Ret): ah
cease: or is it called in ipod? i know not. but everyone seems to have some wires connected to their ears
Dexter Fong (Ret): Yes....they're funny/serious
cease: i dont know why the fuck the tape of that hasnt been released. even my review of it for chromium switch never appeared.
cease: well, not well. yes and no.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Catherwood, save my seat while I visit the head
||||||||| Catherwood saves Dexter Fong (Ret)'s seat while i visit the head.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Uh
Dexter Fong (Ret): Okay
Bunnyboy: I'm gonna go bite my pillow, and dream of a faraway DUKE arrival...
Bunnyboy: nite guys!
||||||||| Bunnyboy rushes off, saying "11:00 PM? Mark Time is almost on! Where's a radio?"
Dexter Fong (Ret): Night Bunny
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Still around Cat?
cease: bun, you'll probably get it before me.
cease: good if its a fatal disease, bad if its the new firesign project
Dexter Fong (Ret): Cat: Did you get a notice from Taylor about it being shipp on the 15th of Jan?
cease: yep
Dexter Fong (Ret): shipped on the 16yh sorry
cease: or not, didnt notice date, maybe last week?
Dexter Fong (Ret): Send him an email to that address, I did and he responded
cease: i know taylor, dex.
cease: we've hung out at the last 3 firesign shows and spoken on the phone, etc
cease: i dont want to bother him.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Then call him up and ask him...
Dexter Fong (Ret): Okay
cease: nah
cease: if it isnt hear before i leave for vegas, i'
cease: i'd be worried. but that isnt for 3 weeks
Dexter Fong (Ret): How long you gonna be there?
cease: get in monday aft, leave sat aft. almost a week
Dexter Fong (Ret): in vegas
cease: i have about 7 or 8 restuarant reservations, breakfast lunch and dinner by the gods of french cuisine, and occasional spaniears and yenka
Dexter Fong (Ret): You know people there or just a restaurant crawl?
cease: restaruant and photos. that image of citycentre came out in the new yorker i read at your place
cease: i used to have relatives there in the 50s but whatr would i know of that?
cease: when not eating, i want to take lots of pix of reflections and i gather vegas has its share
Dexter Fong (Ret): Probably just black and white
cease: ive watched a bunch of dvds of vegas the past few weeks. i look forward to being showered with neon
Dexter Fong (Ret): Neon...lotsa Neon...maybe almost as much as Toykyo or SAIGAN
cease: i saw the episode of no reservations where tony goes to bouchon. willl try and have breakfast there
cease: but i was so dissapponted with keller's per se, i cant imagine having dinner at a keller place anymore
cease: never been to viet, but tokyo neon is dif.
cease: maybe, i'll find out soon.
Dexter Fong (Ret): I did not know you were that disappointed
cease: neon seems to be utillized more horizontically in vegas, that doesnt happen in japan
cease: did you read my blog, dex? if not, do so.
cease: you and myrna are on it in vid.
Dexter Fong (Ret): Different writing geometries
cease: i want to explore that, dex.
cease: taking pix of things i find beautiful is as important to me as eating things i find delicous
Dexter Fong (Ret): Guess I'll check out...hope your DOMM arrives soonest....be well.....see you next week
