H Sanchez: i have used it minimally in a production studio with a friend H Stones: Cool Edit Pro was bought out by Adobe and is now called Adobe Audition i think Bambi: yes, and our new website domain is: http://www.DotCom-Cafe.com ... we thought it should have a .com address lol Dave & Katie: I can't get it to play what I record out of the speakers I bought, since they run through a usb port, not the sound card, I can put a file in and it plays them, but can't record and then hear what I've played back, say if I record from the waveinupt or something, but neither sound forge or goldwave will play either, I dont' know what to do Bubba's Brain: dot com dot com dot com Dave & Katie: yes I can't use adobe audition, downloaded it and it's too graphical for my reader H Stones: sounds like you need to check your sound card mixer settings Dave Dave & Katie: which is too bad I wanted it to work, it doesn't Bambi: yes, that's true Stones. Adam in #cni (irc.equnet.org) uses it quite abit (the new Adobe version and he really likes it) Dave & Katie: I don't know where to find my latest drivers though, because the sb people want the number on the back of the card or something and I cant' read it Dave & Katie: but it's frustrating Bubba's Brain: Sounds like system configuration issues, more than the program itself. H Stones: i agree Bubba JustAnotherGov'tTweeny: One word Dave.... Macintosh H Stones: i agree with the tosh part Dave & Katie: nope tween, speech software isn't good with macs Bambi: Stones is right, sounds more like a sound card setting issue than a Cool Edit Pro problem Dexter Fong: Well, and how about Clan McGregor Bambi: Mac OS X is great Tween Dave & Katie: can anyone possibly help me find the correct drivers? cause creative's site is really inaccessable H Stones: theres just the problemof the number of the card H Stones: if we could determine that Dave we would be in with a chance Dave & Katie: well maybe I was reading it wrong and they don't need that Dexter Fong: stones: Are you referring to the Number on those confounde ID Cards H Stones: whats the name of the card Dave ? Dave & Katie: it's the sound blaster audigy d800 H Stones: a soundblaster i presume Bambi: always had to have the audio settings open and set to record on the item specifically chosen to record from and then leave the sound mixer open while doing that Bubba's Brain: BRB Bambi: lol Stones JustAnotherGov'tTweeny: I see that Dragon NaturallySpeaking is XP/2000 only Dave. If it's gonna do it might need actual Creative drivers rather than Windows generic drivers that are usually installed by default Merlyn: any info dave? ah,clem: good night everyone! llanwydd: nite, clem H Sanchez: stones cant get back into the room the screen just went blank Dave & Katie: no merl, still loking H Sanchez: it did for me but i refreshed it a couple of times and its back now H Sanchez: he is trying again but so far, no luck Bambi: night Clem Thanks! :-) Merlyn: dave, can you operate on their download page at http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ H Stones: Hello I am back H Sanchez: wb hemlock Merlyn: hi stones H Stones: ty H Sanchez: night clem Dave & Katie: when I tried the auto update feature, it said the active x control failed to load, I didn't know what to do after that ||||||||| It's 10:50 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! I am sooo excited, it's gonna be able to do more than I'll ever need, but it's gonna be as silent as you can get without going to liquid cooling H Sanchez: watch it merlyn you can get expelled for that H Stones: sounds like you havent plugged it in Dave Bambi: LOL Stones Merlyn: can you get silent movies on it? Bambi: hope it doesn't have Vista on it Dave ... unless your text reader works in it Dave & Katie: mmmmm I love silent movies, almost as good as the front cover of a playboy for me H Sanchez: good one, dave Dave & Katie: nononono staying away from vista, going to stick with xp H Stones: i hear they do a Braille version of playboy Dave Bambi: LOL Dave ... yes, I can imagine it would be Dave & Katie: I do like analyzing the music in silent movies though Dave & Katie: they do a braille version of playboy, but it's just the articles, and no one reads the magazine for the articles H Stones: no one reads the magazine full stop Bambi: very good idea Dave ... where did you find a new computer that still had WinXP on it? Most of the OEMs of course have moved to Vista unfortunately Dave & Katie: ooo leonard cohen's new record makes my desk shake, his voice is soooo low H Sanchez: dell will still build you one to your specifications, bambi H Stones: arrggghhh ! Vista, the only five letter, four letter word H Sanchez: lol stones agreed!! Bambi: really, I had heard everyone reads Play Boy for the articles ... Jean Shepherd actually started writing for them years ago because of that. LOL Dave & Katie: bambi I'm custom building the comp, everything but the case is in and it might be built tomorrow evening, and it will be tested and I should have it next week some time, so I'm installing xp on it Bambi: glad to hear that Honey H Stones: Dell are likely to start shipping with Linux soon if Michael Dell is to be believed Bambi: Excellent Dave! Bambi: I've already been called in to fix some strang stuff for Vista for clients Merlyn: the supertstrang theory of vista Bambi: oops ... strange even Dave & Katie: brb gotta restart Merlyn: new driver? Bambi: in a virtual closet? H Stones: it snowed here yesterday Bambi Bambi: brrrr ... don't want to see snow any more this year lol H Sanchez: here in new mexico we can get snow all the way up to easter it has happened before H Stones: i had a gig snowed off by a blizzard on Apri 24th in 82 H Sanchez: in fact snow predicted in the higher elevations for tonight so the mountains will get some Bambi: wow Honey ... I never would have guessed that about NM H Stones: in 74 five inches of snow stopped the cricket on June 2nd H Sanchez: same elevation here as denver, bambi Merlyn: doesn't look good for dave... Bambi: ah, ok H Stones: same lattitude here as Alaska Bambi: hmm, maybe he forgot to come back? ||||||||| 11:20 PM: Dave & Katie jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past five minutes!" Merlyn: eavesdropping he was H Stones: wb Dave Dave & Katie: had to restart twice, and now I have no sound
H Sanchez pets katie Bambi: there's Dave & Katie H Stones: pretend its a silent move Dave Merlyn: not good Bambi: revert to previous driver? H Stones: strokes Katie Dave & Katie: wait hang on I think I know the problem, it reset my mixer out device Dave & Katie: well that's odd, it's still not working Merlyn: did the driver appear to update ok?
Bambi is wondering how you set the mixer if you have no sound Dave & Katie: I'm confused Dave & Katie: well I just went in to audio and then chose the wave out as the bose usb audio, but now I can't hear my winamp, only the click when I press enter, hold on gonna restart Merlyn: I'll shoot him with my dick cheney special ||||||||| Merlyn aka 'The Reaper' has killed off Dave & Katie at 11:26 PM Bambi: ok H Sanchez: lol merlyn H Stones: Double Jeopardy ||||||||| Gusts of wind blow in from outside and the thumpa-thumpa-thumpa of helicopter blades is heard as Happy Panditt's chopper lands on the lawn and Dave & Katie plummets into the garden at 11:27 PM. H Sanchez plays footsie with catherwood ||||||||| Catherwood walks right past H Sanchez Bambi: cool Dave & Katie: who is the dick of the orgazation Merl Merlyn: How about a time-travel Cheney vs. Burr showdown? Bambi: waiting on baited breath (what does that mean?!) to hear whether recording works now Dave & Katie: nope still doesn't work Bambi: guess it's better than pins and needles? H Sanchez: i think it's with baited breath......and actually i never knew what the hell it meant, bambi Dave & Katie: only input I get through is the mic Merlyn: It's "bated breath" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bated_breath H Sanchez: ahhhhhhhh Dave & Katie: fish breath? dog breath variations? Merlyn: means nearly not breathing H Stones: what kind of bait do you use Merlyn Bambi: maybe there is some DRM (Digital Rights Management) built into those speaker drivers that prevents even fair use?? Merlyn: I'm a real master baiter Dave & Katie: I don't understand it, it looks like I did it right, set the wave out to bose usb audio, the in to sb audigy d800 Dave & Katie: that would be weird, because I didn't install any drivers for the speakers, just plugged 'em in and changed the out to them and the speaker set to 5.1 Merlyn: dave, can you determine if the new driver is working at all by getting any sound that you know is going through the new driver? Bambi: did you set it to RECORD FROM the waveout for bose audio as well on the recording side of the mixer Merlyn: you could also try things like stereo instead of 5.1 Dave & Katie: bangs fist on desk in frustration, and adobe fucking audition is too hard to use as far as the effects are concerned H Stones: thats why i use Sound forge still Dave & Katie: ah I can't type all this out, anyone wanna call me? Bambi: might have to use the Windows mix for that on the record side ?? Bambi: eeek...left my cell in the car Bambi: gotta get that before I go to bed to plug it in Dave & Katie: the windows mix is set to wave Bambi: for both sides of the mixer? particularly the record side and you left the mixer in record and open? Dave & Katie: yes I think so Bambi: ok Bambi: sounds like you are doing it right Bambi: do you have the old set of speakers to try instead of the USB ones ... just grasping at straws here ... can't imagine it would be about the speakers really Dave & Katie: yeah I do Dave & Katie: I don' think it would be about the speakers though either, I can put a file in and it works, it's recording and then playing it back that's not working Dave & Katie: the old speakers are a pain to set up really Dave & Katie: but it's late by most of yall, so I don't want to keep you up Merlyn: dave, so playing a file means the driver is working? Dave & Katie: I just don't get it Bambi: I wonder if you can loop the speaker out to the analog mix line in to capture that? Dave & Katie: no, it seems the driver isn't working, because the problem isn't solved, I could play the file before if I loaded it in to cool edit, I still can't play back a recording Bambi: hmmm Merlyn: maybe it was the wrong version of the driver Dave & Katie: I know, really weird Dave & Katie: I tryed to do the line in trick bambi, didn't work Bambi:http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/creativeaudigy2/index.html Bambi: there is alot on that page, mix of words and images Dave & Katie: but Dylan's "tangled up on blue" is really sounding great on these speakers I'll tell ya Dave & Katie: yeah that would take a bit to read, I don't know what I'm looking for but thanks Merlyn: so the sound you're getting is not at all going through the SB driver? Bambi: JL said looping back wouldn't help, and could be dangerous ... he says it sounds like a 'record input' issue Dave & Katie: I have no idea if it's going through the sb driver, it sounds like it always did Bambi: is it coming from a DVD or CD or Internet Radio, mp3 file or what? Dave & Katie: mp3 file
H Sanchez falls right over.... ||||||||| At 11:53 PM, the lights go out! Rocky Rococo's voice pierces the inky darkness: "I've got you now, H Sanchez!" Shattering glass is heard, and then the lights come back on... Bambi: if you load it into CoolEdit, can you hear it when you play it before doing anything with the file? Bambi: it meaning the mp3 file Dave & Katie: yes I can, just loaded up the same file I'd been using as the test file Bambi: ok, so I guess I am not understanding at what point it won't play Dave & Katie: it won't play when I set the recording mixer to wave, and then record from winamp, it won't play what I have recorded back Dave & Katie: I just made Bob Dylan sound like he's on helium! hahahahahaha I couldn't resist Merlyn: dave, can you record something, then play it back using whatever method you can play back files? Just to see if recording is working? Bambi: so you are trying to record the sound coming out of Winamp into CoolEdit Pro Dave & Katie: dylan goes chipmunk! Dave & Katie: no merlyn that's what I can't do Dave & Katie: it won't play backfiles, I get dead silence Bambi: CoolEdit won't play it back or are you setting Winamp to record? Dave & Katie: correct bambi, recording from winamp, the only input it lets me record to is the microphone, I can speak in to the mic and play it back and hear myself Bambi: Winamp will create wavs but does it silently Dave & Katie: cool edit won't play it back Bambi: just creates a file Bambi: then you generally can import the wav file into CoolEdit to manipulate the wav file that winamp created Bambi: you don't record to the microphone though ... in Winamp you just use the wavout plugin to create a wav file of any recording you play ||||||||| Catherwood walks in wearing his pyjamas, yawns, and mumbles "It's midnight here in New York city"...then he falls over and starts snoring loudly.. Dave & Katie: I've never used winamp to record though, and mostly I record from line in sterio sources Dave & Katie: hmmm how do i do that? never have done that Merlyn: well, ,my cold is really getting to me, I'm going to sack out Bambi: in Winamp (at least in version 2.x) you first choose the wavout output in the preferences, then 'play' a file or whatever, and it will silently create a wav Dave & Katie: I selected the wave out plugin and began playing a song Bambi: have a great night Merlyn Dave & Katie: but then how do I save it? H Stones: same from me Merlyn, take care ||||||||| At 12:02 AM, the lights go out! Rocky Rococo's voice pierces the inky darkness: "I've got you now, Merlyn!" Shattering glass is heard, and then the lights come back on... Dave & Katie: later merl, thanks man really appreciated it H Stones: see you next week Bambi: have a great week Stones! Bambi: ok, CoolEdit Pro is able to do all of that though to record whatever you play in CoolEdit Bambi: not sure why you would need Winamp to record it Dave & Katie: exactly, I'd rather not do that, cause I know how cool edit works Bambi: if you have an mp3 file and you want to turn it into a wav file, you would choose to save as and choose the right bit rate in CoolEdit for what you want, right? Dave & Katie: yes you would Dave & Katie: ah, so I could make a wave of the mp3 and see if it plays back Dave & Katie: or vice versa Bambi: so maybe you just have a mismatch on the bitrate? Bambi: yes Bambi: right in cooledit Dave & Katie: let's see what happens Bambi: first load the mp3 file (or the wav file) and then choose save as and make your choices from there Bambi: from the dropdown Dave & Katie: should I do a save as and do it that way? Bambi: what are your options? I think so, IF it gives you choices on formats to save to Bambi: I believe it does, if I am remembering correctly ||||||||| It's 12:10 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did: ||||||||| H Stones - dead from dengue fever ||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress... Bambi: (don't forget it's been awhile since I used CoolEdit) Bambi: suggesting from memory lol Dave & Katie: saving to microsoft wave format Dave & Katie: it still plays Bambi: so it worked then? Dave & Katie: oh I see what you're saying, I did the wrong thing, hang on I have an idea Dave & Katie: ok i recorded with cool edit playing afile from winamp, then saved it to see if it would play anything, it didn't Dave & Katie: I'm stumped Bambi: you have to set your output on playback on winamp to it's normal wavout, set the mixer record side to wav and leave it open on the record for the mixer while trying to record in CoolEdit from an audio source Bambi: audio source in this case being winamp Dave & Katie: I guess I don't know what you mean by leave it open Bambi: using the Windows Mixer from the control panel if you only have a creative mixer in the system tray Dave & Katie: I've only ben using the windows mixer from the control pannel Dave & Katie: I don't have a creative mier, all it gave me was the creative console and it doesn't even show my bose usb audio device Bambi: ok, PCM/wav can be looped back to a recording like in a stream. but why would you use winamp to play an mp3 to record in cooledit when cooledit can do it all? Dave & Katie: it was just a test to see if I could record anything at all Dave & Katie: I normally just put the files in, and normally record from my sterio to my computer at home, but won't do that until I go home Bambi: probably not the best choice since PCM is an output channel and you record an input channel Dave & Katie: also I thought it would be fun to sing with someone and record both me and the song at once to comapre pitch and phrasing,is the other idea, and I thought that with the "what you hear" option in the volume control I could do that Bambi: actually what you would do in that case is load the file in cooledit Dave & Katie: and then what Bambi: then add another track to record your voice while playing the file Bambi: within cooledit Dave & Katie: I've never been able to use the multitrack part of the program, too visual Bambi: it can do all you are talking about doing directly in cooledit Dave & Katie: at least, the old versions of the screen reader couldn't read a lot of it Bambi: ah, ok, that's the problem .. you really need another track for your voice to record, and then you save the 'project' as a wav and then when you are happy with it save as an mp3 Dave & Katie: so I'm sol basically Bambi: is there someone who can help you set up the second track to record? Dave & Katie: maybe, I was thinking of just playing with it Bambi: ok, have you tried downloading audacity to see if it is more screenreader friendly ? Bambi: (thank Cooledit for multi-track) Bambi: thank=than Dave & Katie: no never heard of it Bambi: audacity is a free program that does what cooledit does, but who knows it maybe more screen reader friendly...not sure Bambi: hold on and I will get a link for you Bambi:http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Dave & Katie: ah cool, yeah I'll try it Bambi:http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ Dave & Katie: I will try it and see if it's more accessalbe Bambi: certainly worth a shot. I have no idea if it's accessible Dave & Katie: sourceforrge.net seems to have a lot of great stuff on it Bambi: you will likely need to read the help file on it. things are done differently in Audacity than in CoolEdit. You import music files and add tracks to record your voice, then export as wav. You can use Cooledit to convert the wav to mp3 still if you don't have LAME mp3 encoder Bambi: yes, it does! Dave & Katie: well now i have a new toy to play with, but I need let the pup out and call it a night, long day tomorrow, thank for all your helps, hugs to you, don't forget your cell phone Bambi: same here ... great to talk to you...give Katie a strokin' for me and tell her I said thanks for her patience ... smile Bambi: thanks for the reminder on the cellphone
