Merlyn: hey KWD
klokwkdog: howdoodle
klokwkdog: talking points memo site is down...again
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Dr. Headphones close behind, mutters something about disrupting his 9:30 PM tree-stunting plans, and runs off to the Aviary.
Dr. Headphones: yo, dudes!
Dr. Headphones: we could write a song about red states and blue states. wait, didn't dr. seuss already do that? :)
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Companero Senor Yamamoto close behind, mutters something about disrupting his 9:31 PM tree-stunting plans, and runs off to the Aviary.
klokwkdog: welcome Ken
Companero Senor Yamamoto: oi
klokwkdog: hey, Yam
Dr. Headphones: hey yam
Companero Senor Yamamoto: herro
Merlyn: hello people, answering firesign question for a web visitor...
Dr. Headphones: i'll stay a while, but can't stay up until it's decided. hell, that might be april.....
Companero Senor Yamamoto: It will be interesting
klokwkdog: you still truckin' Ken?
Dr. Headphones: yep, klok, passed my "parking lot" test today. consists of controlled stop, right turn, straight-line backing, and 90 degree alley docking. got 93%
Dr. Headphones: i *might* take my state road test tomorrow. if not then, thursday or friday.
Companero Senor Yamamoto: in the alley?
Dr. Headphones: in the alley with sally!
klokwkdog: Oh! Forgot to send the "reminder" email about "Weaponry" show
klokwkdog: so you can drive only on state roads then?
Dr. Headphones: good idea to turn on now, since nova wasn't on tonight i missed my clue
klokwkdog: clue? you don't have one?
klokwkdog: i think Doc Tech has some spares you can borrow
Dr. Headphones: server full
||||||||| 9:35 PM: TweenUs@Ants jumps out of the hall closet saying "I've been listening to all of you talking about me for the past hour!"
Dr. Headphones: all state, federal, and local roads that are within 5 miles of any class "a" truck route
TweenUs@Ants: Whell, I think we have a contra.
Dr. Headphones: hi tweeny
TweenUs@Ants: Yo.
klokwkdog: wait until the very end and see if you can make it fly. i'll start logging here during Moorish Radio Crusade sometime myself and hopefully will get one big file like last weak
Companero Senor Yamamoto: oi
Dr. Headphones: the nicaraguans have invaded?
Companero Senor Yamamoto: Send the Dallas Cowboys Defencive line!
klokwkdog: they're only 27 hours away from Washington DC, could attack at any time
TweenUs@Ants: Boyz from Brazil in Arabia...
Dr. Headphones: well, in michigan it's now "one man, one woman" by constitutional amendment. i voted against it. what the hell business is it of mine what any two consenting adults do in their bedroom?
TweenUs@Ants: Grid help us...
klokwkdog: put donkeys in that and you've got my vote, Ken
Dr. Headphones: you do it with donkeys? i prefer sheep myself. they ain't baaaaaad at all
Companero Senor Yamamoto: one man, one woman and one donkey?
Companero Senor Yamamoto: ew
TweenUs@Ants: 2 military advisors played by one the Osmond sisters?
Companero Senor Yamamoto: male or female?
Dr. Headphones: "i'll take marie for $200, alex"
klokwkdog: hey, first Brazil, then Chavez wins in Venezuela...now Uruguay -- read & rejoice: 30 years in the making!
TweenUs@Ants: All I can say is... let's make Congress like the Parliament. Prime Minister's Questions.
Dr. Headphones: workers of the world, UNITE!
klokwkdog: http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200411/s1232551.htm
TweenUs@Ants: Workers of the world, text-message (LOL)
klokwkdog: (dyslexics of the world, untie!)
Dr. Headphones: i'm wearing slip-on house shoes tonight, no strings attached
Companero Senor Yamamoto: eek! The commiess are coming!
klokwkdog: don't get wobbly on us now...
TweenUs@Ants: Antoine, may I have your hand in this massage?
klokwkdog: no, latin america is coming to its senses (and unka sam is too busy elsewhere to dabble at the moment)
Dr. Headphones: server still full, klok, tried about 5-6 times now
TweenUs@Ants: Let's play, catch the head!
TweenUs@Ants: Stay the bourse...
Dr. Headphones: "i'll havee head for $200, alex"
Dr. Headphones: hmmm, make that alexa
Companero Senor Yamamoto: Bill Clinton?
TweenUs@Ants: Make that a Senator.
Dr. Headphones: is bill clinton running again? hell, i'd have voted for him again
TweenUs@Ants: Had to sell my holmes, don't ya see?
klokwkdog switches off HDTV, turns on WPKN, notifies Cat, Ash, DocT, Bunny, Roto
Dr. Headphones: son of a bitch! i wrote one of my senators about 6 months ago, just got an email back from her thanking me for the letter. well, better late than never, i guess.
TweenUs@Ants: The fab 5. Marvelous.
klokwkdog: is he running this election, Ken?
TweenUs@Ants: Doggett for Senator. That's what I'll be working on.
klokwkdog: my polling place gave me a sticker today: "I Voted"
klokwkdog: Ken - I think WBAI online listenership drops off the later you wait.
TweenUs@Ants: Jeeese, you woulda thunk pwople would have got what these people have been diong.
Dr. Headphones: i voted absentee, turned it in early.
klokwkdog: but tonite may be 'way different! ;-) So may the show...
TweenUs@Ants: Oh well, next time...
klokwkdog: Ken - yeah, he seems to be running all over the place
TweenUs@Ants: Been fun. Until last time, again...
klokwkdog: Tween - shades of Nixon in '72, eh?
Dr. Headphones: bill's heart op doesn't seem to have slowed him down a bit--after the recovery period
klokwkdog: my polling place freaked out -- started to run out of ballots by 9:30AM
Merlyn: Go to Chicago and put your "I Voted" sticker on a corpse
Merlyn: just for old time's sake
klokwkdog: vote early and often
Merlyn: is clinton up to not having sexual relations with that woman yet?
Dr. Headphones: speaking of dead voters, it's not uniform around the country. some states allow it, some don't, most don't check absentee voters to see if they are living on erection day
klokwkdog: yeah, I heard that -- how long past midnight on election day do you have to live to count?
Merlyn: me too.
Dr. Headphones: klok, not sure about the rules. i'm still alive, so mine *should* count
Merlyn: what if someone commits suicide if they're depressed by the election?
Dr. Headphones: merl, if this goes on until january, i might consider that option
Dr. Headphones: my prediction: 5 to 4 like last time
klokwkdog: Merlyn - heard on ABC News Now this afternoon, woman who said, "If I had to listen to one more speech, I'd vote for Bin Laden"
Merlyn: Obama and Osama in 'O4!
klokwkdog: Arlen Spector is behind his opponent????!
Dr. Headphones: sounds like a plan, merl
Merlyn: it depends in what order counties report; Kerry is trailing in FL, but because just the panhandle has reported
klokwkdog: Boy, I bet the Il republicans are 'way glad they got rid of that sleazy Jack Ryan and instead got squeaky-clean Alan Keyes to run in his place!
Dr. Headphones: if spector loses, many will cry. i might have a party myself
Merlyn: He's doing really well I think
klokwkdog: i'm all for Spector if it has to be a republican, but would welcome a democrat there
Merlyn: the IL repubs threw away the important Star Trek vote!
Dr. Headphones: he's more moderate than most repubs, but still over the line AFAIAC
Merlyn: I think one state is projected to switch from 2000 - new hampster to Kerry
Merlyn: so far, of course
||||||||| It's 10:00 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| TweenUs@Ants - dead from Globner's disease
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
Companero Senor Yamamoto: hamsters?
Dr. Headphones: viva le pigs de guinea!
Merlyn: they were guinea pigs for the electronic voting
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 10 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Dr. Headphones: catherwood 10 min fast again.
Merlyn: did guinea pigs used to cost a guinea
klokwkdog voted in 5 minutes on an optical scan paper ballot. simple to understand, needs no electricity or rocket scientist tech support
Merlyn: He'll know the results before any of us!
Dr. Headphones: inflation. now they are two bob and a shilling
Merlyn: just like the optical scanner ben franklin invented, right KWD?
Dr. Headphones: ben franklin? hell, i thought al gore invented it!
klokwkdog: and very suitable for recount and easy to examine if the ballot is in doubt (and the scanner kicks it out if voter doesn't do it right)
Merlyn: vomit sound effect optional
klokwkdog: touch screens my ass
Dr. Headphones: your ass is a touch screen? wow! what WON'T they think of next :)
Merlyn: touch screen ANALysis
Merlyn: has anyone even tried the mark time flash game yet?
Dr. Headphones: invented by dr. phil proctorologist
klokwkdog: dunno what's next, Ken; was reading new EE Times today on chips they're using for retinal replacement
klokwkdog: and that led into complete bypass to optic region of the brain-- they're running external sensors right in there
Dr. Headphones: the $6M man is right around the corner, metaphorically speaking
Dr. Headphones: klok: sounds like we can all have eyes in the backs of our heads now
klokwkdog: yep, one setup uses an array of microbolometers that give thermal night vision (B&W only)
klokwkdog: they think they can set it up so you can see thru walls
Dr. Headphones: B&W only? i like that lovely shade of green myself
Dr. Headphones: i can see through walls now. think *windows*
klokwkdog: that's image intensifiers, these are more like FLIR units police have on helis
Merlyn: hmm, hawaii has their polls close same time as CA, not hours later
klokwkdog: LOL, Ken
klokwkdog: it was interesting how many polls in the south close at 6PM or 7PM
Dr. Headphones: what about guam on the other side of the date line? oh that's right, they don't HAVE a vote for president......
klokwkdog: guam is a wholly owned subsidiary of the United States military, Inc.
Merlyn: in MN they close at 8 PM local time
Merlyn: I had 2 phone calls and one person at the door asking if I've voted (democratics all) getting out the vote
Dr. Headphones: michigan is 7am-8pm (local time--part of UP is CST)
klokwkdog: RI has them open 7AM->9PM
Dr. Headphones: i think florida where i used to live is 7-7, but part of panhandle is also CST
klokwkdog: I was thinking of all the working people who get ˝hr for lunch and work until 5 or 5:30PM and the polls close at...6PM?
Merlyn: but your employer has to give you time off to vote in a federal election
Dr. Headphones: klok: i believe it's federal law that employer must give time off for voting and can't punish if you go on your lunch break and it takes longer
Dr. Headphones: no surprise: utah for bush
Dr. Headphones: read interesting article last week about amish. they don't encourage voting but don't ban it either. most amish are for bush but call him on the carpet for the war. they are pacifists by religion
Merlyn: wouldn't they call him on the quilt?
Dr. Headphones: don't want texas footprints on the quilt, i guess
Dr. Headphones: btw, klok, i did watch "mosh" by eminem and enjoyed the hell out of it despite my dislike of rap
klokwkdog: wasn't that a TRIP?! incredible
||||||||| Catherwood leads cea inside, makes a note of the time (10:15 PM), then fades off into the distance going on about the waiting room or the sitting room or something.
cea: hey
Dr. Headphones: hey cat (i think?)
cea: all the polls arent in yet. i'm still missing a few letters
klokwkdog: a partial cease?
klokwkdog: LOL
Dr. Headphones: a few letters? here, have W and G from me
cea: i thought i typed ceased but obviously not. maybe rove stole them
Merlyn: that dirty rat
Dr. Headphones: that bastard. i hope he retires to the 6th level of hell real soon
klokwkdog: (Cat is in EXCELLENT form tonight -- maybe considerable fuel involved?)
Dr. Headphones: that's the one for liars, isn't it?
cea: numbers arent looking good for kerry, but the main counties havent been counted yet, i see
cea: the drugs are JUST STARTING to kick in
klokwkdog looks at it differently -- if he's dead, he can't suffer any more
klokwkdog wants more than the soul burning ;-)
Dr. Headphones: send him to al zaqawri to practice on
cea: klok just told me about this. i was hopng this would transpire but i dont think we talked about it in chat last week
cea: i cant see vote totals of 120 million and bush winning, but then i'm in canada, so what do i know?
klokwkdog: you mentioned it to me in an email; I meant to go on earlier, but finally hit about 9:15 EST
Dr. Headphones: cat: if bush wins again i might join you there
cea: remember what jim morrison said, they got the guns but we got the numbers
klokwkdog: yeah, cat, we're tired of all these filthy foreigners telling us how to run our country! if you don't like the way things are here, why don't you just leave? ;-))
cea: i thought it was a demographic ref. actually "numbers" old la slang for "joints" which as a non-user i didnt know at the time
Merlyn: we could take over canada with votes like that!
klokwkdog: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/story/0,13918,1329858,00.html
cea: just saw cbc drama where-in us takes over canada. very gloomy.
cea: on tv last night. perhaps to prepare us for bush victory
klokwkdog: Cat - I heard that at the time; it didn't make sense to me either way. Of course, lots of Morrison's stuff didn't...
Dr. Headphones: ooh, klok, some ANGRY americans there!
cea: true, but it was great music
Dr. Headphones: cat: would be like margaret atwood's "the handmaid's tale"
Merlyn: but in this country it's a comedy!
cea: the doors were playing la high schools when i was in high school. unfortuately not mine
cea: both cher and michael jackson went to my high school thankfully not when i was there
klokwkdog: yeah, Cat, last time we invaded was 1866: http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~dbertuca/g/FenianRaid.html
Dr. Headphones: damn, we're overdue for an encore then
cea: we've swapped fenians for guiness since then
klokwkdog: atwood is canadian...
cea: y'all listening to air america?
Merlyn: I am
cea: keeps expiring.
Dr. Headphones: oh yes, klok, i was aware of that. heard her interviewed on radio once, she talks funny :)
klokwkdog: what happened when the Union built several divisions of all Irishmen...
klokwkdog: ...they decided they had a more immediate beef with British than with the Confederates...
Merlyn: I put Papoon stuff on the funway page for today
cea: randy is giving some great votes from south florida
Dr. Headphones: ah, the wbai feed is good now
Merlyn: Just for the motogram and first link
Companero Senor Yamamoto: OI
Companero Senor Yamamoto: JUAST STAYIN ALIVE
klokwkdog: cat - did you see that Confederate ironclad that became Japan's first battleship?
Dr. Headphones: yam: good idea when possible
Merlyn: the bee gees?
klokwkdog: esp. if you voted absentee (depending on your state's rules)
cea: yeah. did you read my reply to that, about the korean iron clad from 400 years ago?
Dr. Headphones: CBS polling: 58% of those who voted for kerry actually voted for kerry. 38% voted against bush.
cea: killed a lotta japs. they're still sore
klokwkdog: i heard amazing stuff on ABC News Now this afternoon about electoral college
Merlyn: and the other 4%?
Dr. Headphones: bad blood for centuries between chosen and nippon
klokwkdog: cat - in 1869??
Merlyn: I voted absent-mindedly
Dr. Headphones: merl: probably nearsighted butterflies
cea: apparently its getting better. sharing the soccer thing a few years ago made a lot of dif, at least among the young
Merlyn: I almost went to electrical college
Dr. Headphones: merl: were you too short? or not positive enough?
klokwkdog: ABC said that if we got rid of the E. college, it would be more like what the founders of our country wanted. what the heck are they smoking?
Dr. Headphones: i thought you were a wiry guy :)
klokwkdog: they also said that one Republican elector is talking about voting for Kerry...
cea: around 1600 as i recall. one of the first shoguns invaded korea. there's a hill in kyoto i visited recently that is built upon korean noses he chopped off the victims of his invasion.
Dr. Headphones: the EC is exactly what the founders wanted. and mathematically, it will never change as long as 75% of the senators are from states smaller than average population
klokwkdog: not to mention taking care of the comfort ladies...
klokwkdog: didn't they occupy part of korea for a century or two?
klokwkdog: didn't they import thousands of koreans as slave labor whose decendents are now 4th-class citizens?
Dr. Headphones: shoguns were some mean dudes
klokwkdog: and of course, I can buy myself a house in any neighborhood I want in Tokyo, right?
Merlyn: without the EC, candidates would just aim for big city votes
klokwkdog: (i.e., it's not just Koreans)
Dr. Headphones: klok: as long as you have a million dollars and want only paper walls on 200 sq ft
klokwkdog: yeah, but it's worse than that -- it was, what, 90 years before direct election of senators?
Dr. Headphones: i still think that is wrong, klok. the house was set up for the people and the senate for the states
klokwkdog: i think foreigners are "encouraged" to live in particular districts, Ken: "You'll want to live among your own kind..."
Dr. Headphones: ah so, red lining hits tokyo
Merlyn: was there any particular reason senators changed to popular vote?
klokwkdog: yes, but the VOTING wasn't for senators. The STATE legislatures selected the US senators
Dr. Headphones: merl: commie plot or alien mind transfers. both scenarios have the same amount of good evidence
Dr. Headphones: yeah, klok, the senate was supposed to represent the states, so the state legislatures selected them
klokwkdog: probably the same reason the constitution part about "men of PROPERTY" was modified, as well as changes for blacks, women, etc.
klokwkdog: poor, blacks, women couldn't vote; for House, slaves counted as 3/5 of a "man" but not atoll as voters.
Dr. Headphones: the states were to be quasi-independent entities, bound together only for trade and defense. it's gone far from that original intent
klokwkdog: aside from giving power to small states, EC is a circuit breaker in case a Hitler shows up and ignites the rabble...
cea: friend just came over
Dr. Headphones: you mean george w. hitler?
Merlyn: "Hilter"
klokwkdog: wasn't that the confederation, Ken? once the Constitution kicked in, we all became Federalists under DC's (or Philly's) thumb. Except for RI and NC and the months with an 'R' in them...
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong close behind, mutters something about disrupting his 10:37 PM tree-stunting plans, and runs off to the Aviary.
klokwkdog: welcome Ash!
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Howdy Friends
Dr. Headphones: hey dex
Merlyn: hey dex
klokwkdog: why so blue so soon?
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Klok: Thanks for the notification
Merlyn: but you can't make your name blue, I strip out HTML from names
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Blue as in Demo
Dr. Headphones: merl: or perhaps you mean that austrian wannabe: ahnold schikelgruber, er, schwarzenegger?
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Merl: I'd rather you strip than me =))
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Hey Ken
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Yam and truncated Cat
klokwkdog: all his results aren't in, Dex
cea: hey dex
Companero Senor Yamamoto: hello
Merlyn: Do people want this chat archived? Non-thursday chats normally aren't.
Merlyn: I can do it by hand.
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: You know short hand?
Dr. Headphones: merl: i do it by hand all the time since the divorce....
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Truckers do it on the Interstate
klokwkdog: Ken - replaceable eyeball: http://eetimes.com/consumer/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=ES00YRGHRY1HKQSNDBCCKH0CJUMEKJVN?articleID=51200440
Dr. Headphones: i have done it on the interstate. but it was in a rest area.....
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Rest easy
Merlyn: arrest area?
klokwkdog: your option, Merlyn -- whatever fits, historically
Merlyn: 2004 has 53 thursdays, I think, so adding an extra one helps
Merlyn: forget about daily show
Dr. Headphones: mccain on CBS: "the enemy is not the democrats, the enemy is al qaeda."
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Woo! That's more Thursdays than any ones ever had before
Merlyn: forgot about it, I mean
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Screw McCain
Dr. Headphones: no thanks. he ain't my type
klokwkdog: yeah, I give up on the Republicans. Every single darn one of them on TV seems to have drunk the Kool-Aid
Dr. Headphones: but it's very tasty kool-aid!
klokwkdog: What the heck dirt do they have on McCain that he's saying all this crap?
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: You can tell Klok: Their lips are purple
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Klok: He's just another politician
klokwkdog: Even in RI, people I thought were rational, just a bit misguided, are acting right out of The Stepford Wives (the old one)
Dr. Headphones: i read the book, never saw either of the movies.
klokwkdog: And all the dissenting republicans seem to be locked up in that basement with Perot's crazy aunt...
Merlyn: wait, isn't mccain saying something reasonable?
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Merl: He's just posturing
klokwkdog: Katherine Ross was OK if you turned down the sound...
Dr. Headphones: dissent is unamerican! where is joe mccarthy when we need him?
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Bujper Sticker I saw recently: Keep your dissidence
klokwkdog: No, he's babbling the administration line most of the time
klokwkdog: until it goes 'way off the rails like the swift boat crap
Dr. Headphones: dissonance is better
cea: from The Graduate? The chick Phil Austin was in love with?
klokwkdog: tail gunner joe went to alky heaven
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Cat: Did she return the feeling?
cea: that big bar in the sky. always crowded
klokwkdog: everybody was in love with, but Sam Elliot got her instead...
cea: nope. and good for us. otherwise there'd be no firesign theatre
Dr. Headphones: if only i had a better moustache i mighta had a chance at her....
cea: he has a story about it in his Tales of the Old Detective disc
klokwkdog: the girl everyone wanted and the guy every guy knows they can't compete with...
cea: they were in a play together
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Cat: When was this..before FS?
cea: of course
cea: early 60s
klokwkdog: Ken - whole special insert (fell outta the main mag with a thunk): http://eetimes.com/consumer/
Dr. Headphones: early 60s i was too young, i guess
Dr. Headphones: tnx, klok, looks interesting
cea: i asked austin about it when i met him. the fictional story is more interesting
cea: that's why he's a writer
klokwkdog: she's writer too...
Dr. Headphones: she looks too good to be a writer. they are usually ugly women
klokwkdog: but can get Social Security right after the inauguration
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: I think Danielle Steele is quite handsome
klokwkdog: dacia mariani was quite attractive in her day
Dr. Headphones: dex: never saw her. i was amazed at how good-looking kathy reichs was on her last book
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Kend: Yes, posed in that bulky sweater in front of the fireplace holding a pipe
Dr. Headphones: if you don't know about her, writes forensic anthropology fiction
Dr. Headphones: last one i read concerned nicaraguan mass graves
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Domini Domini Domini, you're all dead now
klokwkdog: women as actresses have very short shelf life compared to men in most cases; being a writer gives much longer career
Dr. Headphones: 90/10 split among african-americans for kerry
Dr. Headphones: pa for kerry according to CBS
klokwkdog: yee-ha
||||||||| It's 11:00 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Companero Senor Yamamoto - dead from Globner's disease
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
Dr. Headphones: kerry 133, bush 196 EC as of now
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Damn! Still no cure for Globner's
Merlyn: that's good
Dr. Headphones: jerry lewis will add that one to his labor day telethon next year, dex
||||||||| Catherwood enters the room, strikes a gong, and bellows "THE TIME IN NEW YORK IS 11 O'CLOCK", then silently exits.
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: No cure is good?
klokwkdog: a lot of that is early-closing relatively populous states in the South. As time goes on, Bush gets sparsely-populated western states and CA goes Kerry, isn't it?
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: The only good cure is a dead cure
Dr. Headphones: calif 55, almost assured to be kerry
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: CNN projects Pa for Kerry
Merlyn: pennsylvania called for Kerry by NBC and some other
Dr. Headphones: i watch CBS only for dan rather's texas aphorisms :)
klokwkdog is relieved; thought Philip Morris would get it...
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Let's go to Doc Headphones down on the floor
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Doc ! Get up
klokwkdog: i thought he had those removed, Ken
cea: penn is good but we need ohio, florida which they're obfviously trying to steal
Dr. Headphones: thank you dex, down here on the floor it's dirty. i blame it on high voter turnout and not wiping their feet when they came in. back to you, dex
cea: william penn wuld approve
klokwkdog turned off the TV card and is listening to results via WPKN, which does not keep repeating them like a football game
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Thanks Doc, we've got you in our ear and can't hear anything
Dr. Headphones: 13% counted in michigan, 54/45 bush/kerry
klokwkdog: but they chopped down all his trees, Cat!
cea: james taylor is mouthing something on my cbc cocerage
cea: i'd rather hear air america
cea: that is sick, kend, but early.
klokwkdog: is that cities or upper penninsula, Ken?
cea: think they'll suppress the detroit vote?
Dr. Headphones: klok: cities are solid dem, boonies are rep, but literally too close to call when added together according to local station
cea: i assume michigan is like florida, mostly repulbican with democratic cities? i guess penn too. i hear that is true in ohio though i've never been there
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Cat: Ohio more a north dem, south rep state
klokwkdog: yeah, Ken, but what is that 13% that's available -- mix, or all rural or all city?
cea: i guess new mexico too. so many states are like that
Dr. Headphones: well, most cities. grand rapids is second largest city here, very conservative. that's where jerry ford came from, remember. calvinist people in that area. god's will and all that brouhaha
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Most likely small precincts...towns etc
Dr. Headphones: klok: probably smaller areas, but they didn't specify
cea: rural ontario far more rightwing that cities but in the rest of the provinces i wouldnt say that was particularly true. certainly not in bc or sask, the 2 i know best
cea: and micahel packer
Dr. Headphones: my town is optical scan, results are in within an hour or so. not sure about larger cities
klokwkdog: yeah, I think in RI, they just gather, read off the numbers in the scanner on the phone, lock the scanner and fold up the polling place.
klokwkdog: i walked to my polling place as did many others -- kind of like that mosh video
Dr. Headphones: klok: i hope they have that handy-dandy little wallet card with codes for verification like the nuclear missle people on subs
cea: that was suprerb
cea: i wonder if enough youngen's will actually turn out, to win this for kerry?
klokwkdog: yep, the GNN "making of" showed how hard everyone worked on the video to get it out
cea: it sounded so optimistic
cea: just heard the director on cbc this morning. very inspring
klokwkdog: well, Ken, if they didn't, I'd have heard the missiles going up from Quonset Air Museum. We keep that Silkworm fueled...
Merlyn: a large turnout should help kerry, but the youth vote is still about the same percentage
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: 197 to 188 Bush on top
Dr. Headphones: 209 bush, 199 kerry EC on rather's show
Merlyn: but that's also a larger turnout to match the larger general turnout
klokwkdog: Is necessary to teach those usurpers in MA some R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Ken: Difference may be due to actual versus projection
klokwkdog: RI went 60-40 for Kerry; I'm surprised the republicans got so much
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Maybe Bush got the Portuguese vote
Dr. Headphones: i still say it will be 5-4 bush in the end :(
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: At least we crushed Nader again
Dr. Headphones: renquist won't dare retire or die before this is over
Dr. Headphones: 24% in michigan, now kerry on top 54/45
Dr. Headphones: must be lots of detroit just reported
klokwkdog: dang! buncha Rs got on the School Board. There go the textbooks and the teacher's assistants...
klokwkdog: http://www.electionri.com/Results/NORTH_KINGSTOWN.htm
Dr. Headphones: klok: no need for textbooks, we have the bible!
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: And the impoortant parts are already printed in red
klokwkdog: Ken: ye-ha! Go MI (for Kerry)!
klokwkdog: I loved that in "Mosh", the part about then taking the flag
Merlyn: 'phones, how about bush wins 5-4 as renquist dies announcing it?
Dr. Headphones: merl: sounds like a movie of the week to me :)
Merlyn: "Kerry Me Back To Old Virginny"
Dr. Headphones: klok: i see the golf course bond issue failed. so much for getting tiger woods to visit
klokwkdog: both RI reps stay Democrat. no constitutional convention. separation of powers will be increased
klokwkdog: yeah, but statewide, prop. 14 to improve Quonset Point passed -- that means more money pouring in here!
Merlyn: move 'em another 50 feet apart?
Dr. Headphones: my damned rep won again. frederick fucking upton for 2 more years. BLAH!
klokwkdog: and the RIU Oceanographic Center gets money that Ballard wanted before he'd come here, may be big draw, too
klokwkdog: run against him, Ken!
Dr. Headphones: too many skeletons in my closet. and he's the heir to the whirlpool fortune, could outspend me 1000:1 ratio
klokwkdog: Meryl- governator is R; legislature is Dem. Gov wants more power, cloaked as mod to RI constitution. Seems to have worked.
klokwkdog: ken - if everyone else is outa job, beat him over the head with own silver spoon
klokwkdog: the golf course brings in money to the town, Ken, but it does sound like a giveaway to someone
Dr. Headphones: every time i write him, i get back 10 page form letter telling me how important my views are and that he values diversity of opinion in his district
Merlyn: ah - a temp power grab, they'll regret it when gov is D, just like prez term limits after FDR bit the Repubs
klokwkdog: wonder of wonders, too, the voters rejected money to build URI a new stadium! AND voted to give $$ to the URI Oceanographic Center, too. I'm impressed.
klokwkdog: all boilerplate, Ken? not good -- "he listens only to his corporate masters -- did YOU get a letter like this?"
Dr. Headphones: hey, we finally got another goodlooking female weatherperson! i almost switched channels after amy moved to florida
Dr. Headphones: yeah, klok. all canned crap from him. but i write often enough his staff will eventually realize that i exist if nothing else
klokwkdog just wants the weather; knows channels with much better cheescake ;-))
Dr. Headphones: but when amy wore that fuzzy pink sweater, it was a sight for sore eyes
klokwkdog: oh, I meant in terms of running against him
cea: i hope this doesnt turn into a wake.
cea: news not good on air america, cbc visuals
Dr. Headphones: i could never be a politician or a car salesman. i'm too honest.
Merlyn: I don't believe you
Dr. Headphones: ok, dear friends, i will now retire to the bathroom for a bit, then bed. 545 comes way too early for me and it's after 11 now. sayonara to all and to all a good knight!
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: I'm calling it a night here gang..see you Thursday which hopefully will be a happy type day
Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong: Night Ken
Dr. Headphones: 27% now, still 55/45 kerry
Merlyn: night
||||||||| Dr. Headphones rushes off, saying "11:29 PM? Mark Time is almost on! Where's a radio?"
Merlyn: probably won't know tonight at all
Merlyn: but with 15 million more voters than 2000, that isn't good for bush
klokwkdog: nite ken!
cea: by kend
cea: dex
||||||||| Catherwood enters with Steve close behind, mutters something about disrupting his 11:32 PM tree-stunting plans, and runs off to the Aviary.
Merlyn: Hey, steve
Steve: Hey, just checking out this site for the first time.
klokwkdog: unscheduled emergency chat, steve ;-))
Steve: I'm a BIG Firesign fan. Is this Chat room interesting ever?
klokwkdog: we couldn't but help ourselves, but somewhat shy on FST commentary due to the national emergence
klokwkdog: yeah, check the archived chats & decide Steve; sometimes the guys visit, too and kibbitz
Steve: I think another 4 years of Bush should give the Firesign guys plenty of new material.
Steve: Everything You Know is Bush!
klokwkdog: if not, they can still mine what he's done to us so far...
klokwkdog is sort of hoping for a Bush reprise of In the Next World You're On Your Own ;-))
Steve: Good point.
klokwkdog: normal chats are on Thursday 9PM EST and somewhat better-attended
klokwkdog: (or 0200 UT if you're elsewhere on the planet)
Merlyn: there's lots of other stuff on the site, too
klokwkdog: good stuff
Steve: Thanks. I'd like to purchase some of the old "classic" recordings.
klokwkdog: a landslide of FST culture to fill your home entertainment monitor...
||||||||| It's 11:40 PM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| Dexter (Color me Blue) Fong - dead from jaundice
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
Merlyn: most is back in print now, except a few
Steve: I'm missing Just Folks. Side A is amazing.
klokwkdog: ooh, missed Dex's farewell...bye Ash!
klokwkdog: Folks was one of the less popular ones...
Merlyn: That one's not back in print yet, though
Merlyn: but Firesign wants all back in print, it's mostly up to laugh.com. Send them email saying you want it!
Steve: Some great bits on it though...
klokwkdog: there needs to be a boxed set for some Christmas. On DVD -- videos, all the albums, etc.
klokwkdog: yeah, the whole "backbone" thing is so relevant with the Christian Taliban in control of the governments
klokwkdog: i bet you'd char 'em just to get 'em stiff
klokwkdog: gad, there's nothing worse than a stiff idiot
Merlyn: Looks like steve left...
klokwkdog: yeah, I gotta scoot, too; 'way late
klokwkdog: nite Merlyn, Cat. It's been fun!
cea: nice talkin at ya. too bad about the non celebtration
klokwkdog: ABC just said FL->Bush :-(
klokwkdog: not yet, anyway, Cat
klokwkdog: bye all
||||||||| klokwkdog rushes off, saying "11:53 PM? Mark Time is almost on! Where's a radio?"
Merlyn: but ABC has said that before...
||||||||| Merlyn rushes off, saying "11:58 PM? Mark Time is almost on! Where's a radio?"
||||||||| It's 12:00 AM, and that means it's time to play BEAT THE REAPER! And here's how our contestants did:
||||||||| cea - dead from the fiddlers
||||||||| Steve - dead from measles
||||||||| Better luck next time! And now, back to our chatroom, which is already in progress...
||||||||| Catherwood enters, and announces to all and sundry "It's 4:32 AM, time to change the log file and clean out unused rooms; please exit the chat room for a minute or two. Thank you for your patience."
